Description:

We all have it...crap yarn.

Maybe you bought it online and then found out it was like knitting with twine. Maybe they were having a big sale at the craft store and you thought that maybe you could knit something with red heart yarn. Maybe you too were once on the novelty yarn bandwagon...but now you are SO off it! Maybe you got some stuff in another swap that you would never ever use.

Regardless...we all have crap yarn and it sits in our stashes taunting us. So why not give it to somebody else! YES! BRILLIANT IDEA! Wait...no...this yarn is crap...who wants crap?

That is the point of this swap...nobody wants crap...they want good yarn! But the key is to not look at your yarn as crap but as a project waiting to happen...it's all good yarn! Think about it...someone out there must like working with red heart...or else why would they make it? Somebody likes every yarn that's why it's made. The problem is our yarn doesn't match out tastes.

In this swap we will each send aproximatly 10 dollars worth of crap yarn. This could be ten skeins darice fringy or one skein of lopi...it's up to you...whatever you consider to be 10 dollars worth of crap yarn. Scraps are A-OKAY...just remember 1/3 a skein of 10 dollar yarn is worth 3.33 not 10 dollars. It does NOT have to match or be full skeins and ball bands are not required but you must send what you believe to be 10 dollars worth of yarn!

But that's just part one! Then each person will then recieve crap yarn which they will use some or all of to make pressent for the person who they sent yarn to! Person A gets yarn from Person B and sends to person C. Person A then uses the yarn they got from Person B to send a SECOND gift to Person C! Everyone will get two things from the same person and give two things to the same person. The point here is to get our creative juices flowing as to what we can do with crap yarn...by seeing what can be done with someone else's crap maybe we will get inspired to work with our own crap! It can be something VERY small [a coin purse or a scrunchie] or maybe you could go bigger and knit a hat or mittens. As long as you knit something from the crap you got you're good. You do not have to use all of it and you can use other yarn from your stash in addition. It's not size that matters here just creativity!

Because there has to be time allowed for people to both get and knit this swap will last for one month. HOWEVER-you should really send your yarn out the first week. That gives your giftee three weeks to make their project. If you do not have any crap to get rid of and are not intending to send yarn OR make a project PLEASE don't sign up. It will really suck if someone works hard on their project and then get's nothing in return. That said just because you get nothing don't shaft your giftee...we all have crap yarn...just make them a lil barette or something. The karma of being a good swapper will come back to you!

Newbies....PLEASE contact me or I will drop you from the swap. This is a labor intensive swap and I don't want anyone to be left out. Additionally no one with under a 4 rating. Since this is a time constrained swap I am going to limit it to users in the U.S. and Canada. If there is enough international interest I might do an international one too!

Clever idea!

FunToScrap 04/10/2007 #

What a fun and unique swap idea. If I am caught up on my swaps later this month I will be back! It wouldn't be fair to anyone for me to over-commit.

Have fun guys!

aqueoustransmegan 04/11/2007 #

yes I know I am always egar to sign up for everything too! I'm trying to keep it reasonable with the amount of swaps I am in....so i figured i'd make one which is exactly what I want to swap!

TaraInColorado 04/21/2007 #

This is a great idea...I think you should put a sub-title on it, though, and use the category of "creative challenge".

This is more like an artistic workshop learning experience.

aqueoustransmegan 04/22/2007 #

it's now also in crafts and challenges. thanks tara!

user7535 04/23/2007 #

Just a thought, I don't know, because I'm a noob, but can you add knitting to the categories, too, instead of just crochet? Because it might get more hits that way.

alicepalace 04/25/2007 #

Argh, I was going to join then saw the 'restricted to US and Canada' part... Please could you put that nearer the top so people like me don't have to read all the way thru', get all happy about a fun-sounding swap, and then be disappointed? :)

(I have so much crap yarn!)

aqueoustransmegan 05/ 3/2007 #

paula your items have been sent....happy crafting!

user4688 05/ 3/2007 #

aqueoustransmegan your package is on his way from Canada should arrive in 4 working days so next week.

Paula 05/ 4/2007 #

I got eleven balls of yarn from Megan today. I have no idea whatsoever what I'll make with them. Somehow I should've thought further ahead than the chance of getting that big ball of yarn sent off to someone else (hope it works out okay, Kim). :)

user3051 05/ 6/2007 #

received my "crap" and had time to whip up the 2nd part to ship WITH my stash of "crap" -- so my partner will be getting BOTH from me in one fell swoop!

aqueoustransmegan 05/ 7/2007 #

I had lots to give peety....sorry I didn't have any great big balls because I usually don't buy great big skeins...there were a couple of near full or full ones in there though! hope you aren't dissapointed

user4688 05/ 8/2007 #

Ellen,

I receivd your crap yarn. What a challenge! I think that I know what I will be doing!!

aqueoustransmegan 05/ 9/2007 #

Gina I got the yarn...you have some good crap!

user4688 05/10/2007 #

Aqueoustransmegan,

I'm glad that you receive it. Hope that you will find something to do with.

E11enT 05/11/2007 #

Hey, Gina, glad you got the "crap" yarn - good luck.

To my partner - got the funky cereal box package. How cool. You've given me lots of choice - lookout Gina, some crap yarn project coming your way. lol

Paula 05/13/2007 #

Megan, I wasn't disappointed. No worries. I was, however, challenged. After three false starts I came up with something that I sent off to my partner a couple of days ago.

You'll not be surprised to learn that I still have about 25% of the yarn left. I couldn't work the thick n thin and the homespun into the concept.

alwaysjoy 05/15/2007 #

I just realized I haven't gotten my crap ayrn yet... My mail is so slow lately.

aqueoustransmegan 05/15/2007 #

joy i contacted your partner. Let me know if you don't get anything by monday and I will send you some crap yarn to work with. I'm so sorry you got a flaker. At the time of assigning partners her profile was good :(

alwaysjoy 05/16/2007 #

I have plenty of crap yarn that I can use of my own so don't even worry

alwaysjoy 05/17/2007 #

I used my own crap yarn and have just about finished my swap for my partner... I ought to be able to mail it tomorrow!

user7535 05/21/2007 #

My second package will be mailed out to my partner today. I just want to say THANK YOU to the swap coordinator for running this swap. It was an excellent idea and it got me looking at my stash in a new way. I hope there will be another swap like this in the future!

aqueoustransmegan 05/23/2007 #

Paula I got your package made up to send tomorrow. I hope you enjoy and are able to use at least one of your knitted items...if not gift/swap them away!

Annilita, you're welcome!...I am in your exs swap comming up and I am excited!

Everyone who participated in the swap I'm glad you have had a good time and I'm glad the swap as gone relativly smoothly! Joy I am sorry you did not get any yarn but thank you so much for still making your items for your partner :)

Hopefully everyone can get their gifts sent out by the 30th. If you aren't going to be able to do so PLEASE contact your partner and let them know you are running late.

aqueoustransmegan 05/26/2007 #

it looks like we've had a couple of flakers....if your partner has flaked please please please try and knit the partner you send to a small item you made for them. It's not fair to screw your partner out of getting something just because someone screwed you over....it's poor sportmanship. [swapsmanship? swapswomanship?]

that said....is there anybody who would be willing to be an angel in this swap? I'd love to angel for the people who don't get something but I know i have a lot of commisssions I need to get out in the next week so it would be a while. If you would like to volunteer please message or email me. Karma will definitly reward you :)
