Description:

This was previously done as a swap by crochetferretlvr

I've recently taken up beading, and am now making my first stitch markers for my knitting. I missed the first swap, so thought I would host this second one.

This swap will be for 8 Simple handmade stitch markers. These can be either for Knitting or for Crochet, so please post in the comments which you would prefer. If there is no preference you can do 4 of each for Knitting and 4 for Crochet to mix it up a bit. Also, look at your partners profile to see what colors they like. Its always nice to receive something in your favorite color!

These must be handmade and not store bought. Where's the fun in that? These can be made using ANY type of beads. That's why this is called SIMPLE stitch markers. If you really want to, you can fancy them up a bit using glass beads or other types of beads. Please only send new items. Even though this is called "simple" you should still send something that is nice and something that you wouldn't mind receiving yourself.

These should be valued at no more than $5 dollars if you were to sell these BEFORE shipping.

If you have never made stitch markers you can do a google search and find tutorials on how to make them.

Now for the 'Red Tape' stuff:

This is an international swap, as these are relatively light items usually. Very heavy stitch markers are tricky to use, I find. I've made it a month from last signup date to must be sent date, to allow for the July 4th holiday and other delays. I will be sending out regular reminders throughout this period.

Newbies are welcome but you MUST email me first before signing up and you MUST have a completed profile! NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!! Everyone started out new once.

ANYONE with a rating BELOW 4.5 and no more than one no send in the past 3 months will be Banned!

IF YOU INTEND TO FLAKE ON THIS ASSIGNMENT, SAVE YOURSELF THE TIME AND DO NOT EVEN BOTHER SIGNING UP!!!

Also, any "flaker warnings" would be appreciated from any swap-bot veterans to help me keep out all the non-senders. Since I'm still new, I'm not aware of all the flakers out there and I want to try and make sure EVERYONE gets a package.

If we do get any 'No Sends' volunteer 'Angels' to send out packages to those that got flaked would be very much appreciated. AGAIN; This is not an invitation or permission to flake. Once you are assigned a partner, you are morally obligated to send them these markers. If you think you won't be able to meet this commitment, please drop out before the last sign-up date. I will be posting notes to the Forum for any no-sends.

I'm relatively new at swap-bot myself and if I've left out anything that you think I need to put on here to help make it clearer, suggestions are welcome!

The last swap host said hers went very well, and I think everyone was pleased. Let's aim for that this time, as well.

I'm in!

In the last one, I got GREAT stitch markers for teeny tiny needles. I'd love to have some for knitting needles up to size 10 or so. I'll begin planning mine now!

SummerLion 05/19/2007 #

I'm in. Will have to figure out how to make crochet markers, since I'm a knitter and didn't know they were different. :(

[Guess that means I want knitting markers. Any size is fine. I use a wide range of needles.]

Is it okay if they're not beaded? I make hammered silver jewelry, and really like making tiny hammered shapes instead of beads.

Thanks for letting me know you set this one up!

alicepalace 05/20/2007 #

I'd like crochet markers please (despite many promises-to-self, i still haven't managed to learn knitting!).

SummerLion: crochet stitch markers have to be removeable from the finished fabric - ie split-rings or similar. You can't get them out otherwise! :)

amandapage 05/20/2007 #

I've seen crochet stitch markers made with earring wires, and lobster claw clasps, and split rings.

SummerLion, yes, that's fine. Home-made is the important part, I think. So long as they have smooth edges that don't catch on the yarn, and that really applies to the beaded stitch markers, so not a problem.

mnsqb 05/20/2007 #

Have just started making stitch markers for knitting. Am trying to design a two sided relatively light weight stitch marker. Would sending these out be okay? If not can send normal ones out. Haven't figured out yet how to do a two sided crochet stitch marker that won't catch on the yarn.

mnsqb 05/20/2007 #

Forgot to say that I'm a knitter-in a family of crocheters. So would prefer knitting stitch markers.

amandapage 05/21/2007 #

mnsqb, I think if you can use them in your knitting, then that should be fine. If you are partnered with a Crocheter, I'd use your discretion there.

SummerLion 05/22/2007 #

Thanks alice-palace and amandapage... I'll have to apologize to a past partner who got knit stitch markers with some yarn, as she's a crocheter. When I figure out how to make them, I'll send her the right kind.

Learn something new all the time. ;)

amandapage 05/23/2007 #

Summerlion, I only learnt that crochet markers are different when I saw the other swap, new knowledge is a good thing! :8-)

Pezdiva 05/23/2007 #

I am a knitter :D

I'll figure out how to make markers for my partner if s/he is a crochet-er - I assume they are like row markers?

amandapage 05/24/2007 #

Pezdiva, do you mean like these?

http://www.knitpicks.com/Beaded%20Row%20Markers,%20set%20of%204_AD80109.html

and I'll need to defer to the crocheters to let us know if this will work for them.

mandyknitster 05/28/2007 #

I love making stitch markers for knitting!! I can't wait to get started!!

Brigit 05/29/2007 #

Hi, crochet or knitting are both fine for me, i do both. Any size will be ok also. As i am in Portugal the only thing i would ask my partner is to send it in a padded or bubble envelope instead of a box if possible and to declare a value of $5 or under (because of duty costumes). Thanks so much.

vanillalotus 05/30/2007 #

I like stitch markers that can be used for both knitting and crocheting, like using the leverbacks. My favorite color is blue and i hate orange. Filoselle, where in portugal do you live? My parents were born and are currently in the azores.

azurerocket 05/31/2007 #

I would like knitting markers for up to size 10. :D I really like cool colors, especially blue.

I will volunteer to angel for one person if needed.

moniqued 06/ 2/2007 #

I like knitting stitchmarkers.

amandapage 06/ 7/2007 #

We're coming up to the closing time for the swap, this Saturday.

I'm checking references for everyone who signs up, so we should be good to go.

I'll send everyone out an email on Sunday, after the swap closes, with some more information.

Please make a note, if you haven't already done so, to post here, or o your profile, if you're a knitter, a crocheter, or both, so your partner knows which stitch makers you'd like.

And I notice I have not said!

Me, I'm a knitter!

searight 06/ 7/2007 #

I almost missed this one! I was in the last one and it was great. I am a knitter. Any size is fine. I do usually work on smaller sizes, but I do not mind a few bigger ones since I never make myself bigger ones.

FibreJunky 06/ 8/2007 #

I'm a knitter and usually work on needles size 4 and smaller.

celia 06/ 9/2007 #

I am a crocheter. Don't know how to work with 2 needles, lol... HUgs and thanks for this wonderful swap.

monkijan 06/ 9/2007 #

Can't wait for this to start - I'm a knitter, love nearly all colors, and use mostly medium-size needles, in the 4 to 7 range. Thanks in advance to my partner!

user8705 06/10/2007 #

When do we get our partners???

cassagain 06/11/2007 #

YAY Time for partners! I'm a knitter myself. :)

Rae4Beach 06/11/2007 #

I would like crochet markers. Thanks!

user2784 06/13/2007 #

I am both a knitter or crocheter but I would prefer knitting stitch markers sized for small sock needles (and some green wouldn't hurt either):-)

TriviumLady 06/15/2007 #

She Knits Too, your package was mailed today; enjoy!

SummerLion 06/18/2007 #

knitster1, your stitch markers are on their way from Alaska...

monkijan 06/19/2007 #

Package is on the way for TriviumLady - hope it gets there soon! Best, Jani (monkijan)

TriviumLady 06/30/2007 #

monkijan, I was in awe when I opened your package. Thanks SO much for the beautiful stitch markers, and all of the extras! Hope to see you in upcoming swaps!

mandyknitster 07/ 2/2007 #

Cass I sent your markers last week I hope that you get them soon!!

vanillalotus 07/ 8/2007 #

Package on the way from mnsqb hope you like them

TriviumLady 07/24/2007 #

Thanks for a great swap, amandapage!

I do like these stitch marker swaps. I think that 6 stitch markers max might be a better number to work with. My expert 11-year-old knitting daughter tells me that 6 is a good number for sock markers :) , and I can't think of any reason in larger-needle knitting to have more than that number, as well.
