Description:

For this swap we will be making ONE jointed (moveable arms and legs) paper doll for ONE partner. (similar to the one pictured above that I found online.. not my artwork!) Finished doll size must be between 9-14" tall. They will easily 'fold' down to stuff into an envie. We will be making our doll clothes/accessories as well. Please use stick-on velcro tabs/ribbon for attaching the clothing instead of folding tabs.. the folding tabs can be very disappointing as they aren't the most effective means of attachment. Dolls can be male or female or other characters. Dolls must be made out of heavy stiff cardstock that won't easily bend. Clothing and accessories can be lighter weight paper or fabric, etc.. use your imagination! Here are some great links to get you started. You may also choose to make your own template! Mirkwood Paper dolls The Enchanted Gallery dolls

Please do not use a printable paper doll template (meaning with the face and clothes already on it) that you would only be assembling. This swap is about being creative and making your own doll and clothing.

Please be sure to name your doll and sign the back of the body.

Serious swappers only. Ratings of 5. I will be checking profiles. International. Postage should be minimal.

Let's make this a swap with no 'extras' expectations.. due to the complexity of the swap. In other words, be generous with the heart ratings if you think your doll is special! I'm giving you lots of time to start and finish this swap, giving us all time to get Christmas out of the way first!

Let's have some fun!!

Oh wow, this is a great idea! I used to make my own paperdolls all the time as a kid....yes, they had paper way back then! Watching for now to keep my load of swaps under control.....I repeat, great idea!

Fun! I will see about joining as it gets closer!

Sounds fun, Is there a minimum number of outfits?

PuddleBugs 11/24/2009 #

Minimum one complete outfit. If you want to make more, that will be up to you. I think it would be great to have a set of pieces they could change into.. makes it more fun!

Must I use velcro? I am a seasoned dollmaker. I make lots of dolls with removeable clothing. I tie my clothing on with ribbon it is a very nice effect. I was recently in a Marie Antoinette Swap where the clothing was removeable, slip ties on with ribbon and dress ties on with ribbon over that. I like the fact that the doll does not have to have a magnet or a peice of velcro to spoil the look of the doll without clothing. Because I always make very nice undies, corsettes ect. which would stand on it's own even if you choose not to put the clothing on. Peace< Brenda

@jewelrydoll180 WOW! I just checked out your website, your dolls are amazing! Such beautiful work.

PuddleBugs 11/25/2009 #

Ribbon is a great idea, jewelrydoll180! Absolutely go with that if you prefer. I never thought of ribbon.. great idea!

Thank you for the compliments doublesided and puddlebugs. I really enjoy paper dolls they are a passion of mine. I have also received some beautiful dolls from some very talented ladies as well. I have a room divider that is made to hold photos that I use to display the paper dolls that I get from others. It is off white with criss crossed ribbon, you just tuck them in behind the ribbon and enjoy> Peace, Brenda

I love this swap already! I'm very excited to make mine and I can't wait to start!

Would it be O.K. to just have the facial features printed? I'm rubbish at drawing faces!

PuddleBugs 12/28/2009 #

Yes, that's fine.. you can find some nice face stamps that are acceptable as well..

Gofeen 12/29/2009 #

Thanks PuddleBugs. Got to get some more swaps signed off and then I'll be back.

This is my first paper doll that I will be making but it's winter so it would be great to have a challenge like this. If anyone wants to pass along special tips, it would be great. Jewelrydoll180, I checked out your website and am in awe of your dolls.

Question: Does the doll need to be paper only, or could it be printed on thin magnet as long as it still is jointed? I was thinking it could be fun to have the other clothes stick on as magnets. Not sure if it will work but am considering it.

PuddleBugs 01/17/2010 #

As long as its still jointed, I think magnet board would work.. might be a bit heavy for postage though..
