Description:

(the above image is not my original work.)

I've participated in a couple of Round Robin-type swaps here on Swap-bot, so I thought we should try this in our group!

For this swap, we will each make an envelope or postcard (your choice), but NOT finish the piece. Then you will send your original piece onto the next person in your group. Then they will add to it or alter it in their own way. Next, they will send it onto another person in the group, add to it/alter it, etc. Your original piece will come back to you finished after everyone in your group has "helped" create it. You won't know what the piece will look like until it goes through the group & is sent back to you. It will be a "mail art collaboration" of sorts!

The envelope or postcard can be any size you want, as long as its mailable. If you choose to do a postcard, you might want to make it fairly large so there's room for everyone's to create. (You can send a postcard up to 6"x11" in the US for 44cents.) IMPORTANT: DO NOT SEND YOUR PIECE NAKED! Send your original envelope or postcard in another envelope to your partners. The last person in the group who completes the piece will send it naked - addressed & stamped. That's why it needs to be a mailable size! (if the finished piece has pieces that might get ripped or damaged in postal machines, then you can send it in another envelope. Contact your partner first.)

PLEASE READ:When I say "unfinished", that means we will each make an envelope or postcard. You can decorate it as much or as little as you like, though I wouldn't leave it completely empty since this is a collaborative swap. Your partners can add to it in any way they want, including collage, drawing, decoupage, etc. any way they want, even if it covers up a little here & there. Ratings will not be based on whether or not you like what your partners did. This is art and everyone's art is different! If you want it a certain way, then please don't join this swap. This is an opportunity to create & keep a one-of-a-kind piece of mail art!! Ratings should be based on adding your own creativity to each piece & sending in a timely manner.

How the Round Robin will work: When the swap deadline comes, I'll assign partners partners but we ignore them. I will edit the swap to tell you who to send to in your group (and give you their address). I think a week is long enough to complete your part and send on to the next person. So we'll have 6 weeks to complete the swap (1 week per partner, plus mailing time.) If we need more time I can edit the swap and adjust accordingly. We will be able to rate each other when done as usual. (There will be 4 per group, so we will each have 3 partners. You'll rate within your group.) For every 4 that sign up, a new group will begin. So we may have only 1 group or 4 groups, depending on how many people join. Its not as complicated as it sounds. PM me or leave a comment/question.

Since this is a time-consuming, partner-dependent swap, group members must have at least a 4.9 rating with NO 1's, 3's or no-sends in the last 6 months, and at least 15 type-3, rated swaps. No exceptions! I'm sorry to sound so militant, but no one wants to put so much effort into something and then receive nothing and no one wants to join a swap with flakers.

WHO TO SEND TO:

So you will send your 1st unfinished piece to the person listed. Then, each time you receive one, you will send it on to the same person. Keep sending until you receive your original piece back! Don't rate until you receive your finished piece, as we will be rating everyone. PM me with any questions.

I want to this swap but am not entirely certain it will work for me. I know I will be out of town from Sept 18th until Sept 27th...that could easily cause a back up of two or three cards at my place. I feel like I might be able to work pretty quickly when I get back, but I don't want to be the cause of it dragging on forever for everyone else. I would be happy to wait until round 2 if it will be something similar?

Sure, @hollycm6 if all goes well for round 1, I hope to continue this sort of swap! Again, depending on how many sign up, the final deadline might be later anyway. But I appreciate you thinking of the other joiners :) Then again, if only a few sign up, I'd love to have you in the swap!

Just jumped on board. My mini zine from @peony (sent in my mail art therapy kit...which was just awesome) has inspired me.

I hope this is okay, I plan on using an old book cover as my postcard. I will include some postage on it for my last partner as I also have some useable art stamps I have not wanted to let go of. This way they will come back to me. Brilliant swap, really looking forward to it.

I'm excited to see what we end up with - very cool swap idea!

iLoveMail 09/ 3/2010 #

Okay, we have 1 group full. Group #2 has 1 person, so let's fill it up!!

starrgazer 09/ 3/2010 #

What will happen if you don't get enough people? Will you modify the numbers in the groups?

iLoveMail 09/ 3/2010 #

Of course :)

AmyMarie 09/ 4/2010 #

I understand the round robin part but if you ignore the swap-bot assigned partners and make your own groups, we won't be able to use the swap-bot rating system. Or am I missing something?

iLoveMail 09/ 5/2010 #

I see your point - thanks for letting me know! I'll think about that & get back to you :)

starrgazer 09/10/2010 #

I will drop so you don't have to ban me. :)

If you decide to do this again with smaller swap groups as listed originalaly I would love to play!

iLoveMail 09/11/2010 #

Go to our group forum & look for the swap page to post when you send & receive, just so we can keep track :)
