Have you ever seen a vintage postcard with a holiday greeting typewritten on the back? Who brings a TYPEWRITER on VACATION?

For this swap you will type a message on the back of a postcard for each of three partners. They do not all have to be the same. The postcards and the messages are "sender's choice".

You MUST use a typewriter (no special computer fonts), even for your signature and the addresses. Postcard must be sent naked - no envelope. Be sure to include the name of the swap.

Brilliant! Favourite swap idea of all time. I think I really mean that, too! :)

P.S. In answer to your question, writers, among others, I'm sure, took their typewriters on holiday, and it's possible they were available for hire (or for free) at the hotel.

We take our laptops on vacation, why wouldn't they have taken their typewriters? There were portable ones.

And people were used to lifting heavier stuff back then. They didn't have all our modern crap made of lightweight plastics back then. Their crap was made of metal and/or wood, and they had much less of it!

I hope ad cards are okay, because that's all I have at the moment. Nothing obnoxious though, the only telling it's an ad card is a small logo on the back.

On second thought, I'll have to drop this. I've got to use up my cheaply acquired old tiny value stamps, and I won't be able to fit enough onto a postcard.

I would like to do this swap, but I've got a problem in that my typewriter's platen is old & while it can handle stationery, if I'm careful, it tends to get...oh never mind, it's too complicated to explain. I'll just join the swap & trust that my partners will be tolerant of some erratic line spacings & suchlike old typewriter problems...=laugh=

Can the PC be handmade or does it need to be store bought?

BetsyPreston 04/26/2011 #

Postcards are "sender's choice". Handmade, store bought, ad cards - all okay. But they MUST include a type-written message, signature, and addresses.

Wow I just finished! That was harder than I remembered. I hope no one minds a little vintage charm!
