I'm an American mom, living in Tokyo with my husband and two kids. My youngest was born this year, and his big brother is four. I'm currently on maternity leave and trying to transition from kindergarten teaching into game development.
Try to think back to 2012. Remember how different it was? Everything was cheaper and things seemed simpler? Well, that's the America I know. Your home country doesn't change when you leave it, so mine is frozen in time. I think sometimes I offend my fellow Americans by saying things like "In Japan, you can buy XYZ." and they respond with "You can buy that in America, too..." Okay, well you couldn't a decade ago. I know a lot of swappers are in the US, so if I say something that sounds off, I hope you understand that no ill will is meant.
I write a lot in the middle of the night, after my boys are asleep. It's almost like I'm stealing time. I sit, under the light of my computer and just write. Letters, postcards, journal entries. Anything I can. My handwriting isn't great, but I'm working on it. I also enjoy writing in the laundromat, while waiting for my laundry to dry.
