I realize I'm biased on the subject, but I am very pro-me. I'm a pretty regular person with a penchant for oddball humor and wry comedy. I really like to laugh at the smart-funny, and I tend to detest the easy-funny. I'm more of a Caveman Geico commercial person and less of a Gecko Geico commercial person. . . if that makes sense. I'm pretty irreverent, but I try to stay respectful. I like tattoos and beer, but I don't like drugs and meanness. My mother would classify me as a tomboy, and the kids I teach call me The Hammer. So. . . I'm still working out what they mean by that.
I enjoy music a great deal, and I don't really shy away from anything. I am a big Josh Ritter fan, and I like everything he's done. My tastes gravitate toward folk, punk, folksy-punk, alternative country, and the occasional top 40 song. I like the standards done in non-standard ways. I mostly like music that is different but not alienating. For example, I dig The Killers but not really The White Stripes.
I enjoy very in-depth accounts of real specific events. Example: Devil in the White City, Into Thin Air, Isaac's Storm, The Know-It-All. I like true adventure stories (and fake adventure stories), but they seem more impressive when they're true. I don't read a lot of fiction, but when I do, I like humor and adventure (Christopher Moore is a favorite). I've tried, but I just don't do well with novels that can "lose you in the language" as they say.
I actually keep a database of all the movies I see in the theater. I saw 60 last year, and I'm up to 44 this year. It's actually a little sad, maybe. But, I consider it a hobby. The only movies I don't like to watch are gory horror movies. I especially enjoy documentaries and films with historical relevance. Comedies and action are right up there, too!
I really enjoy The Office, House, 30 Rock, Deadwood, Man Vs Wild, Arrested Development, CBS Sunday Morning, and those weird documentaries on TLC about the Tallest Person Alive or The Tiniest People Alive or We Have 39 Children. And I still watch the reruns of Friends.
I teach technical theater, so I do a lot of woodworking and props work. Other than that, I'm not terribly crafty. I like photography and to make mix CDs. I really like to write letters, and I ought to do it more often (but now people seem to think its weird to write a letter rather than an e-mail. . . how depressing).
I love this concept of swapping! I'm really looking forward to swapping and hopefully making someone's day when they get a package from me in the mail!
