well it would seem that I'm soon to be heading back to college. I'm going to be off the swaps for a while.
Born and raised in the American deep south I became interrested in art and drama at a very early age. I like to play with clay and a little painting, but recently discovered prop making and costuming. I have really taken a liking to the "Steam Punk" style of fiction and fashion. I aso enjoy both "High" and "Realistic" fantasy.
More you say?
I'm a "Gamer", by which I do not mean I play vidja games alot, I enjoy Table Top RPGs. I hesitate to say Dungeons & Dragons (not because I don't play it, I do and it can be fun, but because of the undeserved social stigma that surrounds it), but there you have it. It's the big expensive easily recognized elephant in the room. I have recently gotten into more "Indy" games lie Savage Worlds and Risus.
I can't really say that I have a favorite group or performer, but alternative is certainly my preferred genera. My favorite band is a local band called Baak Gwai (check their myspace they rock!), an dI also enjoy a group called Swiss Army Photograph.
I am becoming quite proficient with small clay objects and am tinkering with prop making. I would like to take up sewing, but never seem to have the time for it.
It may seem a bit clich'e, but The Hobbit and Lord of The Rings were major influences during my childhood. I also enjoyed the old southern folk tales my grandmother would tell me. I have tentatively investigated the cajun/creole in my heritage via bayou ghost stories.
I have recently acquired a collection of old Science Fiction magazienes that I am quite enjoying, so I guess Retro Science Fiction is now a category I dig upon.
I have an odd passion for the stylings of certain videogames. Mostly Nintendo properties of my youth, Prominently The Legend Of Zelda. I am a huge nerd.
Again you cry, MORE!
Okay The early Final Fantasy titles were stylistically appealing. I enjoy the trapings (Chocobos, Moogles, Black mages and such), but the games themselves were usually bland and repetitive. I think the Tactics Spinoff seriese has the best blend of style and story for my taste.
It would seem that everyone has thes Likes / Dislikes lists, so here goes mine I guess.
Colors: Black Brass Bronze Copper Purple Orange Red
Materials: Glass (bottles cups sculptures) Metals (raw ore or worked) Pottery Rick Rack (small curious objects) Bone Clay (my current preferred medium) Wood
Holidays: Halloween Christmas National Towel Day
Themes: Creepy Fantasy whimsy Science Fiction
Colors: Cornflower or dusty blue any Pink (few exceptions depending on how it's used or complimented) Gold (way over used)
Materials Unglazed ceramic (hate the texture, it just ...bleh!)
Holidays: Talk like a pirate day (not pirates specifically, just how silly this day has become)
Themes: Chic Southern Home (that dusty rose and cornflower crap)
Well I've been informed that I did not infact tell you enough about myself so here goes:
I really enjoy Science Fiction (not the syfy channel variety, except maybe Eureka). Shows like HEROS and Fringe. I can enjoy a comedy or two Like Big Bang Theory, and love crime drama (Law & Order and Burn Notice).
I really miss the cartoon sof my childhood. Disney had an awesome run in the 90's: Darkwing Duck, Pepper Anne, Chip & Dale's Recue Rangers. Duck Tales. It was also the golden age of Nickelodeon aswell: AHHH Real Monsters! , Rugrats, Invader Zim.
Okay movies..... I hate defining "Favorites".
I think the best film ever made was Dead Poets Society, but my tastes tend to run the same direction as my taste in Television, though I guess I'm more willing to take risks on "Art House" pieces like Everything Is Illuminated, in movie format. It's less commitment y'see.
Well, I'm kind of an apathetic sort, and trying to change that. It's part of the reason I joined SB. Another Communbity I am involved in Is Fear The Boot. It's a podcast about Table Top Gaming and I am an active member on their forums under the same Nom De plume I use here.
