I am a young work at home Mom. I homeschool my 8 year old step daughter while also taking care of my almost 2 year old son! We get to do a lot of fun and creative things that traditional/public school kids don't get the opportunity to do. We also have two big dogs that keep us on our toes. I also run my own soap business out of my home with my business partner. I think this swap idea is an awesome way to have another excuse to get creative as well as connect with others! :)
I love to do mixed media artwork, and save everything I can to use in my art journal. I also sew, paint and make soap (for a living). I love to recycle, reuse and use things I find all over in my artwork!
I don't have a particular style that I enjoy, I can find beauty in all sorts of styles, but I tend to gravitate toward images like Sabrina Ward Harrison's or anything in shades of green. I love crisp black lines with bright colors and using words and quotes in my artwork.
I'm currently a 'beginner' sewer, but am in a class and learning quickly. I would love to be doing more advanced things, like making clothing and coming up with my own designs for kids clothes and clothing for women.
My Mom would call me a "modern hippy" but sometimes I wonder how well she knows my family! We love to shop at our local co-op and participate with our local CSA. We are planting our own garden this year, and I'm really excited about that! We try to make the best choices for our children as far as natural and organic foods go, and I prefer to buy things that will last forever and get wooden toys or natural fibers for my children instead of plastic toys or synthetic fibers.
We attend a non-denominational Christian church where we live and love it! Our church family are the people in our lives that we can rely on the most.
Our family time is also spend around music quite a bit. My husband is a musician and owns his own recording company. I would say Music is a huge part of our lives.
If there's anything else you'd like to know, I'm happy to let you know! :)
I love ALL kinds of music, everything from blues to metal! I'm not really a fan of country though.
Some of my favorite bands are: Amos Lee, Los Lonely Boys, Kenny Wayne Shepard, Flyleaf, Killswitch Engage, NeedtoBreathe, Skillet,Family Force 5...and the list goes on.
I love to read! I currently am studying for my Doula Training coming up in March so most of my reading time is taken up on birthing books.
I love all forms of art! I think everybody has their own unique style in whatever medium they choose.
I love art that is in the style of SuziBlu and Sabrina Ward Harrison and Teesha Moore.
Altered books, mixed media, recycled, reclaimed, reused, vintage ephemera...
Scraps of paper, ribbon, old receipts, vintage book pages, found objects, buttons, game pieces, tea tags, envelopes, letters...etc etc etc. I can find a use for any type of material in my artwork and that's what I love about this site. Somebody may send you something you would have never gotten your hands on any other way!
I've been really into quilting/sewing project lately, so fabric scraps big and small, I have a project that I want to do that uses just the salvage ends of fabrics cut at one inch width...so I'm collecting those.
We are quite the foodies around our house. We love food and trying new things. I have a huge sweet tooth and love sweet and salty together. Especially if it's dark chocolate with caramel and sea salt! YUM!
We drink a lot of teas in our house, everything from fruity to spiced. Masala Chai is probably the favorite all around tea in our house!
We really enjoy "REAL" foods and aren't into processed or packaged foods much, but have them occasionally as treats. The more organic and natural the better!
I tried Percy Pigs for the first time today...LOVE THEM!! A Mama from a Cloth Diaper Swap group sent them from the UK, we can't get them here in the USA, so I would say that is high on my list of things!
I like just about anything, but here area few things I do not like.
I am not a fan of commercial characters. For example: disney princesses, dora, blues clues etc. I do like older characters such as strawberry shortcake and the smurfs. Vintage characters are ok.
I do not like cutesy stuff too much. Scrapbook papers with animal prints or baby themes and the such. Everything else is ok.
Food wise, not a fan of black licorice or teas that are flowery tasting.
The color pink. Pink in moderation is ok, just not overdone.
