About Me:
About me, what’s to tell?
I am the oldest child born to an oldest son and an youngest daughter. I was followed 7 years later by my younger brother, whom I love and am terribly close to.
We grew up in a happy home by the Atlantic Ocean, filled with light, laughter, music, dancing, hard work, and most of all love.
Growing up my mother taught me how to knit, sew, dye fabric, cook, laugh at the little things and to love myself. My father taught me to draw and paint, to hook rugs (his Mama taught him when he was a boy), to work wood, to work hard, to keep your word, and how to stand tall and be proud of who you are and where you come from. They are my foundation and base, I could not have been any luckier in who gave me life and raised me.
Despite my happy upbringing, I for some reason only 19 year old me knows or remembers, decided to move 6000 miles away from my family and home. Wanted to stretch my legs a bit I guess. Now I live in a land locked ‘big’ city far from my beloved family and ocean and while I do not mind it here, it does not feel like home. Even almost 10 years later.
If you give me miles and miles of Mountains, I will still ask for the sea.
Still living in this big city has had some advantages. I have been exposed to so many different cultures and people that I never would have been in my home town. I love meeting people from different places in the world, I love talking about their different experiences and points of view. I find it very heartwarming that at the end of the day we are all very similar. I can never understand when people don’t see that. To paraphrase my Mother, always look for the light in people my love, sometimes you have to strain to see it but it is there. You just have to look.
One of the other bonus’ of my move was connecting with some of my extended family that I had never really known. One of my Mothers older sisters had left home back when she was 19 too and raised a family and made a home here. I own a home and share it with her two daughters, who are more like sisters to me now than cousins.
The three of us single girls live in our 5 bedroom house (Affectionately called ‘The Hen House’ by those in the know) on a quiet cul-de-sac, in an older neighbourhood of this big city, with two monster golden Retrievers and two cats (who think they own the house, not us). I try to make it a home like the one I grew up in, one filled with light, laughter, music, dancing, hard work, and love. This isn’t very hard to do, as my Aunt raised the girls in the same sort of home and they strive for it as well.
There is always something cooking on the stove or baking in the oven, there is always music playing somewhere in the house and usually someone singing along with it (with varying degrees of talent), there is always a dog barking or a cat meowing, there is always laughter, even when there are tears. The front door is left unlocked most of the time, so it is open in case anyone pops by for a chat, a bowl of soup, a tea, a beer, a hug, some advice, or even just to say hello.
A day will come soon when the three of us will have to move on, when we will have to sell the house we made a home and carry on with our lives separately. That’s the way of life though, you should never move backwards only forwards. And as hard as it will be to say good bye when the time comes, I imagine that the memories of this time will warm my heart and gladden my soul for the rest of my days.
The girls joke and call me their Fisher Wife because I usually am up to some sort of ‘old fashioned’ (their word not mine) activity. I enjoy baking bread, making jam, knitting, rug hooking, painting, and wood working. Just because some of these activities are not the ‘norm’ anymore doesn’t mean they shouldn’t be done. In fact I believe quite the opposite, if we don’t keep them up and pass them down they will be forgotten and nothing is sadder to me than the death of knowledge.
My this has gotten rather long... I had best sum it up.
I love my family, my friends, my animals (Bear, Kiro, Dia, Burton), the outdoors, cooking, a good book, a great song, a hearty laugh, an occasional ugly cry, the ocean, the mountains, the trees, knitting, rug hooking, religious artwork, old movies.
I believe in being the best person you can be, I believe in the differences small kindness make, I believe in being yourself and owning it, I believe in keeping old traditions alive. Most of all I believe in the innate kindness of people.

Favorite Music:
I love all music. I believe that it is like art, it is all about personal perception or meaning. There is no such thing as a bad song or genre of music. What one person may find offensive or displeasing, another may find beautiful and inspiring. It is all in how you, as an individual, perceive it.
With that being said some of my favorite artists/bands are as follows (In no particular order):
Amelia Curran, The Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Tool, System of a Down, Bob Dylan, David Bowie, The Lumineers, Of Monsters and Men, Muddy Waters, The Head and The Heart, Trampled by Turtles, Drop Kick Murphy’s, Ween, Del Barber, The Dardanelles, RHCP, And too many more to count.
I always love a good beat and strong lyrics ïŠ
“Music gives a soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.†― Plato
Favorite Books:
I have been an avid reader for as long as I can remember, I will read any and all books I can get my hands on.
I love the smell and feel of books, I am not the sort who will ever own a kindle or download a book.
It may be a dying medium but I am going to do my best to keep it alive, at least in my own little corner of the world, at least with my friends and family.
I need to physically hold them in my hands, turn the pages, dog ear and underline things, sometimes hide them in the freezer (keeps the scary things at bay, thanks Friends), sometimes throw them at the wall
I love getting lost in a book, in the characters, places, experiences.
I love fantasy, romance, history, poetry, classics, cooking, horror, mystery, suspense, religious.
Pretty much anything I come across I will read.
Some of my all time favorite books are as follows: Gone with the Wind, Little Women, Tigana, Shogun, Eleven Minutes, Outlander, A Song of Ice and Fire, The Gunslinger, Bright Shiny Morning
