I like making stuff, oh all sorts of stuff. I have the attention span of a gnat though, so production-line-type crafting does not float my boat. If you look at my Flickr pages, you'll see what I enjoy making.
I'm a northern lass living in lovely, sunny Surrey with a southern husband and a splendid cat.
I enjoy listening to BBC 6 Music, I especially love Adam and Joe. My favourite way to spend a day is crafting and listening/singing along to music.
I swear like a twat at home and I bite my lip at work; I make no apologies for swearing, I am technically an adult.
I was given permission to pilfer the following paragraph from a fellow swapper's profile, as I couldn't say it better myself: 'If you need to fill in a customs form, please make what you send sound less exciting than I am sure it really will be. If you are sending handcrafted items or craft supplies, the best thing to do is to mark the 'gift' box and just write 'hobby craft exchange' in the description section and 'NCV' (for 'no commercial value') in the value section. This increases the chance that the item will actually reach me'.
My other half is the funniest person I've ever met and quite the sexpot.
flat-backed sparkling diamante and fine glitter for adding a bit of D.I.S.C.O.
Hand-knitted dischloths (thanks to Knittingcateling for making these an indispensable part of my life); they simply cannot be matched for gentle scouring.
Japanese fabric design. Think tiny animals in the woods, Matrioshka dolls, ladybirds, teeny polka-dots etc.
Small curios for my curiosity cabinet (of the future).
MDF, wooden, card letters. I enjoy embellishing these.
The art work of Anahata Katkin http://www.papayalicious.com/ Gorgeous, just gorgeous.
Robots, space rockets, B Movie sci-fi. Robbie the robot, wind-up robots, Barbarella.
Sailor and rockerbilly tattoo iconographics. The early style swallows, anchors, hearts pierced with daggers, coy-carp and sea-dragons etc. I don't have one but I do like the style.
1950s kitchenware - especially Woolie's 'Homemaker' range. I also like Norway pieces, Lord Nelson 'Gaytime' and other delights from the 60s/70s.
Kitsch kitsch I'll say it again kitsch. Think - postcards with flamenco dancers wearing real fabric skirts. Think - the front cover of the game Mastermind. Think it's kitshy? Think I'll like it.
Japanese blind box toys.
Cath Kidston's designer style, it's a bit Suzy homemaker but I adore polka dots and those stylish blooms.
Dias de los Muertos, papel picado, loteria and milagros.
Many (almost all) of the works of Oscar Wilde. That man had style coming out of his knee-breeches
Marie Antoinette; flamboyance, finesse, joie de vivre et je ne sais quoi.
Owls and pussycats and the odd pea-green boat.
Trees and bears.
Birdcages but not for the purpose for which they were made. Winged beasts cannot be happy in cages. It doesn't stop me eating them though. Double-standards all the way.
1950s to '70s children's storybook artwork. I treasured my Richard Scarry worm-in-a-top-hat mug. You know how this tragedy ends.
Cherry/almond/apple blossom.
French shabby chic. My bedroom is all rosey, butterfly, polka dot and and heart loveliness. Plus some dirty laundry I can't be arsed moving literally centimeters over to the basket.
I do NOT like Disney, especially that Mickey twat.
Oh - and I am not digging any shape or form of tartan - this can be put down to crimes of fashion commited against me as a child, for this reason I am also allergic to puffball skirts and shredded-edge T-shirts.
I love anything with its finger firmly on The Funk Button; Tamla/Motown/Atlantic/Northern Soul, Nu-Yorican funk, old-school hip-hop, Rhythm and Blues, jazz, disco funk.
Artists which spring to mind are: Marvin Gaye, Ernie K. Doe, Shirley Ellis, Stevie Wonder, De la Soul, Aretha Franklin, James Brown, Al Wilson, George Benson, Martha and The Vandellas, Ella Fitzgerald, Miles Davis, Cameo and Run DMC.
I like to bob my head up and down to Electronica; 70s, 80s and modern. Artists who spring to mind are: DJ Adam Freeland, New Young Pony Club, Goldfrapp, Soft Cell, ELO, Kraftwerk, Zero 7, Prodigy and The Chemical Brothers.
I get all emotional baby when I listen to: Rufus Wainright, Carol King, Amiee Mann, The Beachboys, The Carpenters, Burt Bacharach and his many tunes, Belle and Sebastian, Crystal Gayle, ELO, Damien Rice, Labbi Siffre (yup), Paul The Eternal Boy Weller and Billy Bragg.
I rock my socks off to: The Raconteurs, The Clash, The Stranglers, The Stray Cats, The Zutons, The Specials, Kings of Leon,. The Flaming Lips, The Who, Led Zeppelin, Queen (yup), The Pixies, Velvet Underground, Ian Brown, Siouxsie and The Banshees,The Super Furry Animals, The Kinks and The Jam.
I know everyone loves a laugh but I almost always choose a comedy and never, ever horror, this is because I is a fucking wuss.
Faves:
I probably need to end this now.
