"Montessori Teacher by Day- Nanny by Night- Crafter for Life!"
I am the owner and crafter behind The Market in the Glen. I was inspired to create dollhouses and accessories that were beautiful, durable and whimsical because I couldn't find such gifts for the little girl I nanny.
However, I have been crafting and creating from before I can remember as I grew up in a house with a crafty mom and a musician for a father. A childhood filled with fantasy and fairy tales has also helped to create a vivid imagination. I really enjoy the ability to be creative and use my hands.
I am interested in expanding and challenging myself through crafting projects like these. I look forward to swapping and learning from you.
Choosing a favorite is rather difficult as I have so many. While I am crafting I like to listen to music in foreign languages or purely instrumental as it helps my mind to flow and escape all at the same time.
A few favorites include Bjork, Imogen Heap, Tegan & Sara, Ani Difranco, and Emily Simon.
I read voraciously, especially when I am too tired or busy to craft. I love Victorian novels, young adult fantasy, craft books, classic children's picture books, Shakespeare's plays and female authored poetry. My degree is in English literature, so I have an extensive personal library from antiques to children's to educational philosophy.
Books I would recommend right now are "The Book Thief" by Marcus Zusak and "The Book of Lost Things" by John Connolly.
I love movies almost as much as books. While I am crafting I often have a Netflix movie playing in the background. I choose fairytales, children's classics, fantasy and films with beautiful cinematography for inspiration.
Movies I would recommend right are "The Color of Magic", "Stardust", "The Golden Compass" and "The Chronicles of Narnia".
I really have no limit to what I like to craft. I spend most of my time working on miniature, jewelry and dollhouse for my Etsy shop, but I have an extensive past in painting.
I also enjoy sewing, knitting, paper crafting, scrapbooking, polymer clay, mixed media and collage.
I am very open to swapping for anything, but ATCs, crafting supplies, crafting kits and miniatures are some of the things I am looking forward to receiving and sending. It makes creating easier when I have a variety of materials at hand to use how ever my imagination requires.
If you look at my shop or blog you can tell I really love fairies, woodland creatures, earth tones, mushrooms, miniatures and all manner of fairytale inspirations.
