Wow. I absolutely hate talking about me. I'm a retired accountant who is the primary care-giver for my soon to be 90 year-old mom. consequently, I spend most of my days online in one capacity or another, or crocheting, reading, and quilting. I'm divorced, no children, and as fate would have it, I retired about the same time as my mom needed in-home care. She will be 90 in February 2012 and providing for her has been one of my greatest life challenges. I'm a knowledge "junkie" and the internet has proven to be my "go to" source for just about everything. I'm a Viet Nam Era Vet and have worked in the Medical Admin and Computer Ops field during my military service.
I'm a child of the 70's. I love Motown, soul, and gospel. Anita Baker, Teddy Pendergrass, Jill Scott, and Robin Thicke are some of my favorites. Oh, and I can't forget Luther Vandross!! My music tastes run to the romantic, I suppose.
I'm a somewhat avid reader. Right now, I have in my "bucket list" all of those classics that I "should have read in high school or college". My most recent non-fiction favorite is Disintegration by Eugene Robinson. My most recent read that I thorougly enjoyed was Water For Elephants.I'm also a Twilight, Harry Potter, and The Notebook fan.
I'm a Law and Order fanatic. Other than that, I pretty much watch news and political channels.
I've been crocheting since I was 8....since my mom told me "you're too little for this". Ha! I eventually surpassed her in skill. I'm a self-taught beginning knitter and in the last 5 years have also fallen for quilting. I consider myself a "confident beginner in them all. I don't really dislike any colors, however, I'm least fond of all pastels. I love mixing black with everything and love earth tones and almost any color found in nature. I love jewel-tones, am not fond of most florals, other than 18th Century repros. I don't care for '30's repros as they always seem to contain too much white and light colors.
Since I'm a new quilter I would love to do regular private swaps of small fabric cuts, in order to build and add variety to my stash more quickly. I would like to do a postage stamp quilt and have several other scrappy quilt ideas buzzing around in my head! I don't believe in the "quilt police, so all but the most flimsy of fabrics is just fine with me. However, I will adhere strictly to the swap requirements of any exchange in which I participate.
I have already decided what I'm going to make from swapped 2 1/2" fabric strips and the quilt-to-be is already named "Swapper Joy". It's to be made from a pattern/technique that can be found at http://blog.heirloomcreations.net/?p=1897.
I love dogs and am terrified of domestic cats! I think lions, tigers, cougars, and such are some of nature's most beautiful animals...but, I wouldn't want to hang out with them either. I have a 2 year-old pom-poo mix who thinks she's human.
