Comment: Sandy ~ What a great PC! I grew up in SD so saw lots of cows and never really thought they were all that attractive but a few years ago I really started to see the beauty in them. . . must be my old age :-) Thanks so much for the beautiful PC for this wacky day ~~
Response: I've always thought cows had really pretty eyes - full of expression. :o) If you lived in SD now, you'd be seeing lots of buffalo. We have them here in MN, but I'm pretty sure the Dakotas have more. I know what you mean about the age thing. I never cared much for kids (except for my own), but now I watch the little ones with fascination, and can't get enough of my great-niece, who just turned 5 last month (She loves the House Mouse pc's I send her every couple weeks, and loves getting mail - period). I still give teenagers a wide berth if possible! ;oP Thanks for the great rating! :o)

Response: I love lightning too, and since I moved to an apartment I have a huge window (aka: sliding glass doors) to watch the light shows during electrical storms. So far all the storms have rolled in mostly from the west and north, which is the direction my windows face. I love the free entertainment. ;o) Thanks for the great rating, and the compliment!.

Comment: Sandy, thank you for the Gorilla postcard. The postcard shows the Gorilla's pensive - as if thinking - face. Amazing detail in the photo. Interesting that they make their nests every night. Fun PC idea swap! Hoping some day in future I can go to a Zoo again with my camera. I've been fortunate to have 3 trips to the WDW Animal Kingdom resort hotel. The African animals are in huge pens just outside the hotel, their areas look like African landscapes. Happy Summer to you Sandy!

Comment: Thank you for card #2 as it arrived today =D. Now I am able to see what a Zazzle card is like. To me it looks like a regular card and I am not sure why some people do not like them. Now for the card it is so funny as it is the exact same cat as my fat Minou. Being a big gal my vet told me fat owners always make their pets fat....lol.
Response: Yay! I don't understand the dislike either, except for perhaps really serious pc collectors. Oh well, it's their loss, right? ;o) Is Minou neutered/spayed? That always causes them to put on weight, dogs too. Of course, if you know you're contributing to the extra weight, you can control that. Don't fall for those "but I'm starving" looks! My aunt took me there as a teenager in the mid-60's, and we had a great time waving at the men on the freighters coming in. They waved back and yelled stuff, but we couldn't understand what they were saying because it wasn't English. ;o) The freighters we saw were smaller than what you see today. Yes, Zebra's may be "wild horses," but were never meant to be broken to bridle & saddle, to be ridden by humans. And for good reason - a Zebra, the way they are built - would be too uncomfortable to ride. Ochies!

Comment: Thanks Sandy -- very pretty card. Let me know when you have that system down. I have started writing down what I send in excel, but finding it a little difficult to check back on things.
Response: That's why I like 4x6 index cards for my swaps, and now for keeping track of what I send. I write what I send on the actual swap cards, but it's not an efficient way of keeping track by person what I sent. I've started that file on 4x6's, and it's alphabetical. At the top I have the user name, then a few lines below that on the right I put their real name and address. On the left, and below the address, I start listing by date what I sent that person. I'm going through my archived swap cards now, starting at the beginning. If a person is no longer on swap-bot and I feel they won't be back, I don't bother making a card for them. I have my profile up when I'm working on these. I'm adding as I go along, not trying to find everything by one person all at once. If I get someone for a partner now that I know I've sent to several times before, I'll go through all my swap cards and get their card up to date if I already have one made up. If I don't, I'll make one. Other than that, I'm just moseying along as I have the time. Sometimes, the old fashioned way is the simplest and most efficient. ;o) I'm keeping them in a box with my archived swaps, but separate. It'll be a simple matter to add to a 'profile' card at the same time I'm making out a card for a new swap. I already have a profile card made for you, and it's all up to date. These profile cards would also be a convenient place to make notes about the types of pc's a person especially likes, if their list isn't too long. Index cards are easy to staple or tape together if you eventually need more than one - I tape. I hope this is helpful to you. Thanks for the heart! :o)

Response: My mother is a tough one, for sure! ;oP After being electrocuted in the bathtub, she was on some machine at the hospital, which she was supposed to stay on for 24 hours to keep track of her heartbeat. My brother shows up after 8 hours with their tickets to the Viking's game, and my mother talked the doctor into releasing her - no way was she going to miss that game! Comment: Lovely card! Elk... so funny! A young buck fell in our hot tub and couldn't seem to get out ... 4am - we heard 'CLUNK BANG SNORT CLUNK THUD SNORT!!!" The dogs were standing staring out the back glass doors - what a sight! Sadly it was before the age of cellphones and instant photos!! HA!! I would have loved to get it on film!! The moment we let the dogs out, the elk miraculously found his way out of the hot tub and back up the mountain which was my back yard! LOL Happy Swapping!! <3

Response: I'm so glad you like the card, and I think you'd like Celtic Thunder too. ;o) You can find them on youtube. They do traditional Irish, plus other stuff. Ryan does a great job with 'Desperado', and I like their version of 'The Boys Are Back In Town' better than the original by Tin Lizzie. Also, check out Keith & Neil doing 'Whiskey In The Jar' with their matching red guitars - excellent! Then there's the official website. Can you tell I'm a huge fan, lol? Thanks for the heart! :o)

We are super lucky where I live - tornadoes are quite rare, although we occasionally have severe weather alerts. I have only ever experienced one tornado, and we were lucky as it was only a bit destructive and no one was hurt. I can't imagine how scary it would be to experience a bigger one!
Response: As a kid I used to have dreams about tornadoes being after me, and once the Ajax 'white tornado' had me cornered in the basement. ;oP That was a commercial, if you're not familiar with the reference. I'm glad you like the card, and thanks for the heart! :o)

Comment: You get to see live buffalo occasionally?? How awesome is that!! We have one in the petting zoo at Red Rock, but he is so old it's almost sad to see him still....I used to take my kids there, now I take my grandkids..that's how long he's been there!!! Response: I think that pc is kind of spooky, but I love it, and I'm glad you do too. ;oP Yes, people raise buffalo here. I even get to see babies once in a while. When I came back to Minnesota back in 1991 (after having been away for many, many years), I was heading to a birthday party when I came on a herd of about 30 buffalo wandering around on the county road. Kind of freaked me out (in a fun way), because I wasn't aware that buffalo ranching had become popular here. I guess they just got loose, then couldn't decide where they wanted to go. ;oP That is kind of sad about your Red Rock buffalo being so old, but nice that people get to see him up close. I guess I'd try to look at it as him getting a lot more love and attention than your average buffalo. ;o)

At least up here it's been consistent - brain numbing cold. ;o) Don't remember if I mentioned it or not, but Sandford is a home boy - before writing fiction, he worked the police beat for one of the major papers here. I love his "Prey" series, also his Virgil character.

Comment: Hello Sandra! Thank you for making me laugh with the funny "Minnesnowta" map postcard! Loved it! Yes, Minnesota is the "refrigerator" of the US. I've never been to your state, though I have lived thru 40+ yrs of winters in Wash DC suburbs of Maryland. Sandra, you have the most beautiful handwriting I've seen! Wow!
Response: I'm glad you got a laugh out of it! That card reminds me of getting my lips stuck to a metal pole as a kid (yes, I did it my way, lol). I was stationed in Baltimore during my stint in the Army, and lived in Essex, MD for six months after I got out, so I'm real familiar with the weather there. My first year there they got 1/2" of snow, and the entire city shut down! Civilian workers got to go home, schools shut down, buses, everything! Those of us from the north got a big kick out of it. ;o) I'll take our cold and snow over their rainy, bone-chilling winters anytime - never saw so many people with pneumonia. Thanks for the heart! :oP

Comment: Hi Sandy, Thanks for this great bear PC! This summer, I saw one this huge and glossy, on the road, at mile 130 of the Richardson Highway. Absolutely gorgeous. About a mile up the road, there was a young man skateboarding down the highway, way out in the middle of nowhere (they were repaving the road so he had a wonderful smooth surface to skate on). I stopped and told him about the bear...and he turned around and went back the other way. :) Hugs from Alaska, Sherry

If you want to freeze your butt off (of course there's always the heated ice-fishing house), go for it! ;o) Personally, only a matter of life & death would get me out on ice where I know the depth is more than 3 feet, and even then I'd hesitate. Response: The card is an advertisement for a restaurant that serves animals killed on the roads by cars (roadkill). The animal pictured on it is supposed to be a dead animal, a possum if I remember correctly. It's not a real restaurant, of course, just a funny take on an all too common occurrence. ;o) I'm sorry for the confusion, I hope it makes more sense to you now. Happy New Year to you too! :oP

Response: Florida is a state I will never visit, for 3 reasons - the heat, the humidity, and the mosquitoes! We have enough mosquitoes here (due to 11,800 lakes, plus wetlands, etc.), and while we have our humid stretches, it doesn't compare to MD & FL. As for the heat, when the temp reaches 83, my a/c goes on! I'm glad you like the card, thanks for rating. :o)

Response: A few years ago in late fall I went out on my porch one night for some air, and there was a skunk munching on the chipmunk food I keep there (they also had their own little bowl of water). I didn't realize it was there until I heard the munching - it was no more than 3 feet from me! I started talking to it softly, and spent a good 15 minutes waiting for it to freak and spray me. But it just kept on eating and drinking. Then I slowly got up and went back inside. All I could think of the entire time was that I didn't have any tomato juice in the house! I was surprised at how calm it was, though I had talked to it before earlier in the evening when I was on the porch. It had been out in the driveway, and then came over and started to climb the stairs of the porch. I said "please, please, do not come up here!", and it turned around and went back to the birdseed in the driveway. I guess it decided I wasn't a threat? I read recently that they can only spray 8 times in their life, and so save it for very serious threats. I don't keep food and water on the porch floor anymore - it's up where the chipmunks can go, but the skunks can't! Even so, I love skunks! I'm glad you like the card - thanks for the heart! :o)

Comment: I love, love, love this postcard. We used to have a German Shepherd dog named Timberwolf Anya and a wolf lives on my tattooed right arm. Yes, I knew about the wolves of Minnesota from a documentary on PBS. Wolves have a special place in my heart. Vincent is my top favorite artist of all time. He is such an inspiration to me. Until I started pinning him on Pinterest, I had no idea how prolific he was. My friends and I saw an exhibit of his work at the Philadelphia Museum of Art last year. Incredible! Thank you for a wonderful swap!

Comment: Wow, your handwriting is so neat! I absolutely LOVE Siamese cats. A furry.. How to explain. Well have you seen "The Golden Compass" or read the book. Well that idea that you have an animal that represents you; mine is a domestic Cat and my partners is an Arctic Fox. Its different for everybody. But its just a different way to express yourself. Some people wear costumes, others not. Its just a lifestyle choice. Hope that isn't to freaky. hahah
Response: I just read the book review for "The Golden Compass" (similar to the beliefs of many Native Americans, and other indigenous peoples), and if any animal represented me, it would have to be a dog, or maybe a raccoon - perhaps a "doccoon"? ;oP Of all animals, I'm most like those two, and especially relate to dogs. I have a lot of the traits of both animals. Dog - because I love to have fun and just hang out with my "pack", I'm extremely loyal to family & friends, and I have a very protective nature. Raccoon - I'm resourceful, often silly, and extremely curious. Both - if I feel threatened, or someone poses a threat to my family (and that includes the non-humans), I I will turn all hell's fury on you. Funny thing is, you don't want your dog messing with a treed raccoon - ever! :oO As for freaky - who's to judge? If I ever get caught up with my reading, I just might check out that trilogy, as I sometimes read fantasy, and like fantasy tv and movies. I'm glad you like the pc, and thanks for the heart! :o)

Comment: Thank you for the postcard. I was lucky, in my past life before I had my kids I owned horses. My horses were not "Hollywood" either but I had many enjoyable trail rides. Fall was my favorite time to ride. Now I walk through the woods and fall is still my favorite time of the year. :)

Comment: Thank you, Yes elephants bond, I heard one story about two that were separated when babies, in same heard, or sometime in a distant past. Then the zoo somewhere got a second female elephant and they put her in the area of the first female. All the sudden the workers heard this loud 'scream' from the elepahnet4 area! It was the two re-bonding, like a scream we let out when we see a dear loved one we haven't seen for years... They researched both elephant and found out they had the distant past togetherness, and the friendship bonded then and was so happy to renew. They can't think like humans, but animals do have some feelings.
Response: Certain animals seem to think somewhat like humans, and I think the more intelligent ones experience a wide range of emotions. Did you ever hear of Lawrence Anthony - "The Elephant Whisperer"? What the elephants did two days after his death in March, 2012 is fascinating, and amazing! It's easy to look up, as it was all over the news worldwide. I think I've read the story you're referring to, and others like it. Any way you look at it, elephants are amazing animals! I'm glad you like the pc, and thank you for the heart! :o)

Response: I'm so glad you like it! :o) Yes - Rte 10! I lived about 5 miles out of the town proper, on Old Westport Rd. My ex and I used to joke about living so close to a power plant, how someday we'd start glowing green. So, what did I do when I returned to MN? Yup, I'm 10 miles from another power plant! But this one has hundreds of Trumpeter Swans that spend the winter in the ice free water there. The rest of the year they spread out, and I see them around here all the time. In my book, that alone makes it worth it. ;o) As for my handwriting, it takes a lot of concentration to make it readable (you should see my grocery lists and the post-its I have plastered everywhere - horrible!), and I try to cram as much as I can into the small space. Since I've been Postcrossing and swapping here, my script has shrunk. ;o) Thanks for rating, and for the heart! :oP

Comment: Thank you for the nice postcard. Kitty is half street stray (some years ago most of the street cats were black.. I suppose the could have been Burmese..) and a very thoroughbred Persian, who run away :) and got pregnant.. Kitty is kind of a rescue, it was like "take her or she goes to the streets" (all 4 kittens find a nice home). We got her when she was no more then 2 weeks old. I named her Janis (as Janis Joplin), but nobody calls her that. Ha-ha,
Response: I think you're right about those street cats being Burmese - Kitty's wedge shaped head shows that she definitely has Burmese in her. That's one of the markers of a Burmese (who are descended from the Siamese), the others being gold or yellow eyes, and sable colored fur that looks black, unless you fluff it up under a strong natural light. I think their genes must be really strong, because even when a cat is only part Burmese, the markers of the breed usually show up pretty strong. I love the way they're so sociable, and always talking. My Xena used to follow me around the house when she wanted something (usually my undivided attention), just yakking away Does Kitty sing as good as Janis did? ;oD Thanks for rating, and for the heart! :o)

I actually like insects, EXCEPT for the ones that want to suck my blood, the imported lady bugs, and the teeny ones that come through the screens. And I can't forget flies - I kill them with pleasure! I haven't had too many bites yet this summer, mostly because I can't do my own yard work now, so I'm spending much less time outside. The back yard is the worst, because there's so much growth out there. Any day now, the deer flies will be showing up, and they will come after you right through bug spray! After they've bitten you, you can actually see where they've taken some flesh - they're really nasty! I don't mind summer as much as I used to, but I am looking forward to autumn. Response: I'm glad you liked it, even though it wasn't a lake or waterfall - we were restricted to "store bought", which is very restricting for me. And I didn't see a special fondness for lakes or waterfalls listed, so I went with the wolf getting a drink of water. ;o) I still think he may have been fishing for minnows because of the way his paw is held up. Wolves will fish for minnows, just like some dogs do. If I ever get you as a partner for a water swap again, I will send something more obvious, lol. I wish I could say it comes naturally,but I must work VERY hard to even make it legible - you should see my grocery lists and the post-it's I have all over the house, sometimes I have a hard time deciphering them! We're in the high 80's here, but the humidity is finally starting to drop. My comfort zone is 60-80, anything above that, the a/c is on. I once spent the month of June in NC (about 60 miles from Ft. Bragg), and thought I was going to die from the heat (still, better than Alabama weather)! :o( I'm definitely not a hot weather person. The locals were very nice to this northerner, and I enjoyed the beautiful countryside!

Response: I avoid the cities like the plague! St. Cloud has doubled in size since I came home in 1991, to about 65,000, so I don't even like going there anymore. It's all road construction, etc., going on now, so I only go when I have appointments. My postcards come from "Minnesota Reflections" at the truckstop in Clearwater, and from Zazzle. The places that used to carry pc's in St. Cloud no longer carry them, except for Hallmark, and they only have 7 different. That moss garden in NH really made me appreciate the Japanese style of gardening - so relaxing! There are so many types of moss and lichen - it doesn't have to be boring. I drove myself, my dog, and cat from the east coast to MN, but took the northern route. The people in Canada were so nice and helpful to me, all along the way! Before that trip, I had never really given much thought to Canada, but I've been a big fan since. :oP When I came down to the states through Sault St. Marie (I hope I have that right, it's been a long time), I asked "how far to Duluth from here?" , and the guy answered "about 8 hours". I was shocked, and asked "how could it possibly take that long?" He replied "well, you have to drive through Wisconsin first". Well, duh! Comment: Thank you for the Fisherman Xing sign. I've never seen that sign before. I'm not too crazy about fishing myself. I loved going with my grandpa growing up but I didn't actually do much fishing. I just like going up to the mountains with him. :)
Response: Fishing is practically a religion here, but I found it more interesting to sit on the dock and watch the minnows swim around. ;o) Time with my grandpa was mostly spent following him around the farm, "helping" with chores. I went pheasant hunting with him and my great-uncles a few times, but my focus was on watching the dogs retrieve. Thanks for rating, and for the heart! :oP

Comment: Thank you for the postcard and the information about your life. I love tree frogs. I see them sometimes when we holiday in northern Australia. Do you want a live kangaroo or a postcard of one? Male kangaroos can be very big and sometimes aggressive.
Response: Actually, I'm not one of those people who think it's a good idea to try to keep wild animals as pets. What I do think would be nice is if I could have a few wild "friends", meaning they felt comfortable enough around me to come close, and just spend some time hanging out together. That's the Dr. Doolittle dreamer in me, lol. The logical me thinks all large, and many small, wild animals should be considered potentially (or most assuredly) dangerous, and shown the same respect you would have for a loaded gun. There have been exceptions - think Dian Fossey and her mountain gorillas, the Adam's and their lioness Elsa, Jane Goodall and her chimps. But exceptions are rare, and too many people deceive themselves into thinking they're somehow "special" - until they're attacked, and often killed, by their "buddies". I don't even attempt to make friends with the chipmunks, rabbits, etc., that live on my property either, because I don't want them to get the idea that all humans are "safe". All that said, I would love to be able to just sit somewhere safe and be able to observe kangaroos in their natural habitat. I'd put up a list of certain animals that I'd especially like to get postcards of on my profile (and I did for a few hours, then deleted it), but I'm afraid that I would then get only them. So, I talk to the frogs, and other animals, and feed some of them, but that's as far as it goes. But if you ever get me for a swap partner in a sender's choice swap, you know what to send! Uff Da -this turned into a letter! Thanks so much for the heart! ;oP

Response: I can relate to that dilemna personally, having never lived in an apartment or house that had more than one bathroom. ;o) Buffy has really stepped up as the new "head watchkitty", and I hope she's going to be around for a good while yet.
