To my recent swap partners - I've had a very emotionally draining month in January. I apologize to those whose packages I have not yet sent out. I hate to be one of the ones who puts up this horrible message. I will send them out as soon as possible. Thank you for your understanding - Kelly
I've never done a swap before, but I've always wanted to. Recently, I've been feeling kind of down and I know that making other people happy makes me feel better! That's why I decided to join!
I'm 25 years old. I live with my amazing boyfriend of three years. He's a PhD. student at Cornell working on math (yuck!) We don't have any children yet, but are planning on it in the futre.
I live in central New York state, where I work as a French teacher to junior high students. I love my job and wouldn't trade it for anything in the world!! I am working on my Master's degree in Second Language Education and am almost done! Hooray!
I have been to France three times. My first was in high school for a week, my second was in college for 9 months, and my last was as a chaperone this past April. It was different every time for me because I was at very different points in my life. I love just about anything associated with France or Quebec. My boyfriend is actually from Montreal (though his family is Anglo) and we have been there a few times together. I love sharing French children's books with my students because they can actually read some of them!
I am very interested in learning new languages. I am currently trying to teach myself Swedish via cds in my car. It's been fun! I would also like to learn German and a little more Italian. I took an intro Italian course in undergrad and really liked it. I hope to teach my future children multiple languages so it would be neat to have childrens books from other countries.
Favorite Flavors: Strawberry, vanilla, watermelon, CHOCOLATE (the real thing, not the hard candy version)
Favorite Season: fall
Favorite Holiday: Halloween!
Favorite Flowers: Lilac, Daffodils, daisies and roses.
Favorite Candy: Twizzlers, anything with peanut butter Junior Mints, York Peppermint Patties, Lindor truffles, any Kinder... and AERO bars. It is nearly impossible to find Aero bars here. I love the minty ones - do they still make those?!
Favorite Drinks: Diet Pepsi, flavored coffees, chai
Dislikes:
Black licorice and anise - YUCK! I'm not really a fan of anime at all. Religious stuff...
I love:
French/France The Eiffel Tower :) Swarovski Crystal bicone beads... Penguins
I really like Billy Joel and the Barenaked Ladies. I also like Mika, French pop music... I pretty much like most music except hip-hop / NEW R&B. (Unless it is Quebecois hip hop then it's just hilarious)
I like Teacher Man by Frank McCourt and romantic comedy novels like Bridget Jones. I also enjoy historical fiction novels.
LOVE ACTUALLY is by far my favorite movie. I really like girly movies like that. I enjoy French cinema, as well.
I like dramas like House and CSI. We don't have cable anymore, so I don't get to watch these as much as I used to. I also really like Sex and the City.
I enjoy beading and paper crafting. I am always open to new crafting ideas and suggestions if you know of something fun! I love working with glass beads - particularly Swarovski crystals and glass pearls. They're just so pretty! I've tried knitting a little bit, but I haven't been able to get the hang of it. I am horrible at crocheting, my mom is amazing at it, why can't I do it!? I would like to sew a little bit more. We have a Singer from the 1940s with the pedal at the thigh. It doesn't backstich, but it still looks really sleek. I love it.
I love the color pink in any shade but especially neon! I also like black, silver, green, yellow, blue and purple. (and all neon colors)
I would LOVE to try soap-making someday. I think it would be really fun and an interesting hobby. All I have to do now is convince the boy... ;) I love getting handmade soaps - they always smell so lovely! I'm planning on giving my friends and family members gift baskets with handmade bath products in them for Christmas. I know they'll love them!
If we're doing a jewelry swap or something similar - I very much prefer silver to gold for findings and things. Gold doesn't really look good on me. I also have very, very tiny wrists and fingers - I wear a size 5 ring and a 6 inch bracelet. (I sort of like to let them dangle a little bit, so something slightly larger would be ok, too) I don't like to wear long necklaces - 18 inches is quite long for me. I prefer them to sit on my collar bones or just below.
