*** I'm moving currently and will be without internet access until July 12 or so. So if you don't hear from me or you haven't received a swap package yet, I will be contacting you and/or you will be receiving the package. ***
Who am I? I'm a reference librarian living in Kansas. I've got two dogs, two gerbils, seven finches, two fish, and one husband.
What do I enjoy? I'm an avid knitter who also cross-stitches and crochets. If I had enough time, I'd spend more of my life reading. A favorite activity to go along with knitting is watching movies. I've participated in knitting swaps before and really like getting to know new people.
I love jazz and folk music (both modern and old stuff). I like some classic rock and oldies. Some of my favorite artists/groups are Barenaked Ladies, Chicago, James Taylor, Simon and Garfunkel, Norah Jones, and Cheryl Wheeler.
I read a lot of Stephen King and Dean Koontz. I also enjoy historical fiction. I also am working my way through classics that I may have missed while in school. Recently I took a couple of classes that covered Asian and Asian-American literature and have been further reading more on my own. In the fall, I'll be taking a class covering American Indian literature. In general though my tastes are pretty eclectic and I will try anything that looks interesting. I'm a librarian, so in general, I love books.
I like horror movies, particularly good suspenseful ones, like old Hitchcock stuff. I like some fantasy, depending on what it is. Comedies are okay as long as it's not toilet humor. I also really indie films. My favorite actors/actresses are Tom Hanks, Robin Williams, Judi Dench, Sandra Bullock, Gary Sinise and Patrick Stewart. Additionally I love old musicals like South Pacific, The Sound of Music, The Pajama Game, and The King and I.
I don't actually have time to watch a lot of television since I'm working on a second MA and have to devote weeknights to studying and/or classes. But I do enjoy House, Ghost Whisperer, Bones, CSI (the original and New York), Survivor, So You Think You Can Dance, and Ghost Hunters. I'm such a Survivor fan that I will record it when I can't watch it.
I like knitting and cross-stitch mostly. I really like whimsical designs. I do some basic needlepoint. Jennifer Pudney is one of my favorite designers when it comes to that. I also do crochet a bit and have found that I do enjoy it although I'm fairly slow.
I collect snowmen and you will find a few out all year long. I also like chickens/roosters but had to stop collecting things like that because I ran out of room. When I have time I do like to cook and bake and am always willing to try new recipes. So I guess you could say that I collect recipes also. I seem to have started collecting interesting tea cups...just kind of happened.
And I've got a small bunch of wooden and stuffed dogs. Most of those are ending up in my office.
Oh, and Alaska stuff. I lived there for three years and have been collecting posters and books about the Last Frontier.
And I collect postcards. I keep a bulletin board with a rotating collection. So, I'll be taking part in most of the postcard swaps. If it's unusual or strange, it's likely to stay on the board for longer, but I like getting any postcard.
I like bowling and bowled on a league in college. I also play golf and look forward to playing more as there is a gold course right behind the new home. When we can get away for a weekend, I like camping in our little pop-up. I also like going to zoos and have found the many little Kansas towns have their own zoo and my goal is to visit all of them. I love going to Chicago when we have a chance while visiting family. I enjoy going to large musicals (I loved Rent), museums, gardens, coffee houses, art theaters, etc. when I'm in a larger city.
I'm also addicted to blogging and maintain three blogs, two personal and one professional.
My main favorite color is blue and you can usually see that reflected in my wardrobe. I also like some reds, oranges, browns, greens, and yellows. When it comes to decorating I prefer neutral colors with brighter color accents. I guess I kind of do the same with my clothes as well. I don't like neons or those really pastel baby colors.
I love chocolate and black licorice. I'm a big fan of Jelly Belly jellybeans. Otherwise I don't care for jellybeans. I also like nuts, like almonds, peanuts, and filberts...all unsalted and basically just out of the shell with no enhancements. I like fresh fruit. Yes, I'm a meat eater, but I'm starting to not like chicken too much because I pass a chicken processing plant on my way to work each day and the smell is nauseating. I've eaten venison, moose, and bison and liked all three. But I just can't imagine eating any sort of chocolate covered insect.
