Comment: Philip, it was fun to see your name on the envelope again. Hope all is going well with you as another year, miraculously, is nearly to its end! I cannot tell why it goes so much faster--seemingly--each year. April will be my big 70 birthday--GULP! 50 and 60 didn't bother me but 70 is a great looming, gigantic leap into what seems "old." So, I'll have to make 70 the new 50 and 80 the new 60, if one follows the paths set by women's magazines and the media in general here in the States. I do hope you are safe and stay that way through all of the turmoil in France recently. My son and his fiancee (to be) were in Germany for Christmas last year. I'm glad it is not this year! They were at a cathedral (Episcopal) in Germany but not far from France for Christmas Eve mass. He proposed when they came out of the church and all of the bells were ringing! He's my "romantic" and daughter is this is how it works, matter of fact---she's an attorney, go figure! Thanks for the postcard. I finally got one of mine back after quite a far-flung international journey. If another doesn't come soon, I shall start a new one.

Comment: What a pleasant surprise to get your package! I certainly was happy to get the pistachios and the tea! I tried one tea last night and one this morning and, really, I liked them both very much! Thank you! As far as pistachios here, I just looked today and at the local Walmart, they had both shelled and unshelled. I noticed you sent unsalted, and that is difficult to get around here; all are salted or "lightly salted". I like them either way. Thank you for a great package! I even liked the pc holding the tea! Thank you again and again!

I am so glad you got to see your daughter and meet her future family. I think it would be hard but knowing that she is happy and safe is always reassuring. Comment: I also grew up (and still am) LDS as well. I do so wish we did more than an early in the season Ward party and Christmas service the Christmas before. But, we spend Christmas Eve with family at home, reading the Christmas story from the Bible. My daughter (who is helping me open cards) would like to add: On Christmas Eve we get pizza and me and my brother get pajamas and we read a family story that has been around for a looong time. -Annabelle

My family always does a "traditional" Christmas dinner with turkey and ham, corn bread stuffing, and all the "trimmings". For dessert it's pumpkin pie or pecan pie. My favborite is pecan pie. Response: Yes, fortunately! The emergency dentist put it back in temporarily, and I visited my regular dentist just yesterday who put it back on permanently. (At first she thought I might need to get a new one made because she had to remove some suspicious spots underneath the crown, but in the end she managed to put the old one back on, saving me about $500. Yay!)

Comment: I am scared of swimming to far in the ocean (massive fear of what is underneath the water) so I have never competed in a marathon or triathlon. My biggest walk to date in competition is 6km. But next year I will aim to do something big!

Why does your wife not want to "abdeckelt" for me a house, but rather, an electric stove? Oh and sending children to Mass - that became sending children to fair in English and sending children to something rightful(=fair) in Estonian...
I could almost understand the German version, though. :)

That's the sort of thing that can identify the "middle" language used in such a translation... and where you have to think around two corners to realise what the original text *might* have been before you can understand it! I usually eat for breakfast a piece of fruit, a Vitatop muffin (basically a vitamin enriched top of a muffin) and sometimes some kind of protein, like nuts, cheese, or a small piece of sausage/meat. When I am not on a diet, I usually eat random things that aren't breakfast foods!

I traveled to Italy and Greece 2 years ago and one of the airports we stopped in along the way was Frankfurt. I couldn't get over how clean it was, and how nicely dressed the people were! Lol... The group I was with felt very out of place as we were all dressed in hoodies and sweatpants/leggings, and it seemed as if everyone else was dressed as if they were ready for a Calvin Klein shoot! And it’s kind of interesting to work in an old corn silo… one of the conference rooms (at the corner) has rounded walls (remains of one of the tubes) and that’s kind of unusual. Comment: Gorgeous postcard (crazy how such pretty flowers are growing between two huge rocks!)! I love how there's a gardening theme going one :D Thank you for sharing your garden goodies with me! My plot definately wouldn't not have enough room for potatoes and the weather here is much too cold to grow tomatoes (I've tried! *pouts*). We currently have (and do well with) lettuce, peas, carrots, radish and beets and I have strawberries and blueberries but the birds steal them before we get to them most of the time :P
Response: I thought the picture on the card was pretty interesting, too - I wonder how they manage to take hold there! Not all of our produce turns out well, either - practically all of the apricots on the tree are white and shrivelled, for example; I wonder what exactly they have. Comment: I see that you're a stacker like me. I think it looks awesome after! The map looks especially neat.
Response: I never knew there was a name for the kind of cltter I tend to accumulate :) I must have inherited it - I remember my father's desk always had a 6-inch covering of various magazines etc. on top of it, that he would then write on top of :) Once my little sister tipped the desk over by mistake and everything fell down - for a while afterwards, the desk was tidy again! The map writing surface I got as a present - it's a bit soft and so writing on it doesn't make marks in the desk itself. Unfortunately, I once put a dinner plate on it that was still warm and now I have a permanent ring-shaped indentation on it where the warm plate softened the plastic cover enough right under it and sank into it a little. It was very exciting for me to get a letter from Germany since I read German at school loooong time ago. I tried to read the letter without translation and I managed even if I read the English after to see if I had understood properly.

I have a monstera growing in my garden and, when the light is just right, have strived (but so far failed) to capture an artistic photo similar to the one on the card. Nochmals danke.

I was in Germany (as well as England, Belguim, The Netherlands and Switzerland) many years ago at the age of 8. My dad was doing his dissertation work at the time on the Frankfort Stock Exchange. I have very distinct memories of Frankfort, Cologne, Munich and Hamburg. I also remember riding around in our pale blue VW bug (my parents bought it in the states, took delivery in Germany, then had it shipped back here after our trip), and stopping up in the mountains for lunches of bread, Camembert cheese and fruit - yum! That was my parents' first of several trips (my dad must have gone on about 10 or 12 research trips, and my mom accompanied him at least 3 other times). Well, enough about my memories! Thanks again for the postcard and note!

We do have Ritter Sport bars here, but only a few flavors and I've never seen the Olympia flavor and have only ever tried the dark chocolate marzipan. Comment: Yeah!!! You again :) Despite the 400 gr gain, but I'm proud of you for the fitness inscription! You are definitely doing better than I am, sob... Last week I did a 25 min work-out every day, through a fitness dvd, but during workweeks I just can't combine it :s It sucks, because I realised I felt so well all day long, only because I started the day with some work-out. I still need to get on the scale this week, but I'm not expecting too much of it. Anyway, hooray for you! Keep on the process!

I've considered starting an IRC collection, too, but the one swap I started for that purpose, nobody signed up for :( And they're not even sold in the US and the UK anymore, from what I've heard. (And did you know that the original Ponzi scheme had to do with IRCs? Since IRCs cost different amounts in different countries, he thought he could "buy low, sell high" by buying IRCs in a "cheap" country and selling them for postage in a country where postage was more than he had paid for them. He ran into problems with that scheme, though....)

Comment: I was raised by my grandparents, and my grandfather would always eat Shredded wheat. We called it "Bappa's bale of hay" because that's what it looked like. 2 bales of hay, 2 packets of Equal sweetener, and warm milk, if possible. I like frosted mini wheats, which is like shredded wheat, but the size of the end of your thumb, with a bit of frosting on one side. Cold milk though :)

And it was longer than a regular postcard, correct? I did send it off by the required deadline for Round 5. Somehow I missed Round4. Response: I used to :) Back when 6th Edition was current, I tried to collect them all and played occasionally. Haven't done so for years and so I have lots of cards I haven't got rid of but have no real use for. Since they're the same size as ATCs I used them as backing for an ATC swap was in at the same time (my first ATC swap) and then I thought I could use them for the inchies as well :)

Response: Thanks to the Gulf Stream, our winter is pretty mild for how far north we are; the lowest we got was around -8 °C or so (+18 °F) and it's currently +3 °C (+37 °F). We had a fair bit of snow (for us) in January but all that melted away during the last week of just-above-freezing temperatures.
