Comment: I'm impressed that the calendar uses illustrations instead of photos. What do you use to make the background? Nice effect!
Response: Thats a random collage of magazines, paint, stamping etc with some tissue to knock it down. It was super busy for a background at first. I collect a bunch of discarded cavellini calendars for the artwork.

Response: Freshly bought silk paints, and dumpster-found Marvy fabric markers. A partial set with brush tip, or chisel tip. It helped my sloppy resist drawing skills! Glad you liked the silk bike PC.

Comment: Yay, a card from Carroll! I like the effect on that found paper, even if it did fade. So cool. Whose ink are you using? (Definitely pronghorn on that stamp; sadly, it was struck by the rabid pen scribble cancellation crew)
Response: Thank goodness! I was hoping the ram #2 card had not been lost in a snow storm. I use the Speedball water based inks, but I blame the old book page for the weird fading. I printed more with red first, and then black, and all went fine.

I used to live in Riverside so was used to quakes but it was a BIG surprise when we had one here ~ I was in Michaels and they made everyone leave ~ phones were out and think most places kept people out of the businesses for about half an hour ~ I just came home and called it day! Comment: Sorry for the late rating, and 10,000 hearts and pussycats for you. It's BEAUTIFUL! What kind of soft block was Max rendered in - do you mean a handcarved rubber stamp? And if so, have you used woodblock ink rather than a stamp pad? It's exquizzzz! :)
Response: Max is a hand carved stamp made of a soft carving block like Master carve. I use speedball block printing ink, to get extra dark black.

Response: All my postcard collages are made with rescued papers, books, and magazines. As in, rescued from the trash, dumpster, recycle bin, and other places I scavenge.

I think I will have to follow your example and use a sturdier base card for my swaps, as my current ones do not do well in the post to the US and Canada. I have been really lucky with my partners on this swap - all three red postcards have arrived before the mail deadline.
Response: I use a frozen food box panel for my backing. It's sturdy enough to survive the USPS and Royal Mail postcard mangling machines.

Comment: Wonderful collection of stamps, Carroll - very impressed that each one is different! I found it interesting that you stamped a 'faux perforated' border even on the stamps printed on pre-perforated stamp stock.
Response: The eraser carved faux postage stamps with carved edges were made before I discovered the extra gummed paper at the edges of a postage stamp sheet. I still use them as rubber stamps, too.

Response: I'd love to see what your inner landscape looks like. The old low value postage stamps are from Ebay. Some are rare, but most sell for about face value.

Response: Thanks for the heart. I'm glad you liked your butterfly. My postcards are mostly made on recycled frozen lunch boxes. Like Lean Cuisine, or Eating Right. All my workmates save them for me now.

My mind does not run to sentimentality when I look at it, Instead I wonder if that poor baby without clothes on is getting bitten by mosquitos or is uncomfortable from grass and debris betwixt her cheeks. ;) I believe that is the baby's nurse/governess and she's actually hoping to tempt the baby into the water so that the child will drown and the mother will go mad. Once the mother goes mad she will no doubt fall into her fever of death leaving the way clear for the nurse/governess to be with the lord of the manor. At least that's my take on it...:D
Response: Now, I admit that every one interprets art in their own way, but I'd rather not think about bare bottoms on the grass. Is that the baby's Mom or the irresponsible baby sitter? Wow, some one has been reading too many Harlequins!

Comment: Hello, Carroll ... Please accept my appology for not rating you. I don't know how it slipped my mind because I loved the car of the beautiful butterfly! It was especially meaningful to me because about 2 days before getting it I found a butterfly just like it that had been injured , probably by a car. It was fluttering on the road and I stopped and got it and kept it with me in my car. It kinda looked like it had just been stunned and might live. I did some photos of it and just protected it, but it did soon die. I kept it and have it on the window sill in my kitchen. It sounds kinda crazy, but I felt blessed to have the chance to have that close encounter with such a pretty and delicate creature. Therefore, your lovely card was most approiate and welcome to me. Thanks.

Comment: Eww! Banana slugs! I shrieked and threw it across the room, then laughed my head off and picked it up to look at it. Realistically slimy, with an interesting background, this is truly bizarre. (Don't you just hate it when you step barefoot on one in the middle of the night? Ugh!)

Response: I learned the napkin trick from Farstarr. They have a nice article about paper napkin collage in ClothPaperScissors last month. I use acrylic gel medium in matte.

Response: I use acrylic gel medium in matte, so it doesn't show. I go over the top only if I'm worried about the delicate papers. I figure the post office will keep my mailart dry.

I went to UCD then graduated from Chabot College, Hayward, as a dental hygienist. The ice cream parlor in old Arroyo Grande was Bernardoz. Comment: Another fabulous collage card with mystery stamp! Yay! Very awesome, and how did you create the perforations on the faux postage stamp you included? I have a pair of stamp edge scissors, but they don't make an edge nearly as small or convincing as that, and I'd love to know the secret.
Response: The secret is to use real stamps. I printed my eraser carving onto the selvage of a real sheet of postage stamps. They have gum already on them!

Response: Somehow I knew you would like a Frida O'Keeffe stamp! I use the speedball tiny "V" gouge for all the details. But the real secret is...I take out my contact lenses so my 40-something eyes can get in really close for the detail work. Enjoy!

Comment: This is the best ever X postcard with the xeriscape (I've learned a new word that wasn't even in my dictionary!). Wonderful!!! The snake in the sand is very cool.
Response: The 1956 dictionary did not have xeriscape either, but it's a common gardening word, especially out here in the dry Western States.

Comment: Thank you for the great ATC's. I loved the recycled papers you sent with them. I actually work for a trash company and try to recycle as much as possible. I think that may be why I loved them so much.
Response: Glad you liked them. I made the paper recycling ATCs for the garbage art booth at the Maker Faire in San Mateo. I didn't want to come across as lecturing every one about recycling, and pollution, so I tried to make it "arty".

I grew up in the 70's so we had the next generation of Barbies... my sister and I even had a revolving Barbie kitchen with light up dishwasher and rotisserie...

Response: That's a Narwhale. The horn is really a tooth, but it looks like a unicorn horn with a spiral. I think they live in the arctic area.
