Comment: Wooow! Thanks for the lovely tatted bookmark :D I tried tatting before but couldn't get the hang of it! I started using it in the book I'm reading. Saving fish from drowning, I wouldn't recommend it though haha

Comment: Beautiful butterfly necklace and thank you so much for the hand-dyed thread! It is very pretty and I appreciate that you included the thread size. That is so important for crocheting and as you know tatting as well. Was the thread that you made the butterfly from also hand-dyed? I would love to learn how to do that, because the smaller sized threads, #30 and smaller are difficult to find in colors other than black, white and ecru.
Response: For dyeing tatting thread, I have used fiber reactive dyes from Dharma Trading with great success. It is lots of fun, really, and a great creative process...making the tatting even more unique!

I used to do pastels in jr. high [oil & chalk], so am thrilled to be able to try to pick that up again. The yarn is so beautifully dyed. I think I'm going to make myself a hat with it. And the pendants are going to be made into some thing fun and fantastic, as soon as I figure out what that is. Haha! Thank you again!

Comment: WOW! First of all, I wasn't expecting this swap so soon, LOL. and then it's cool to hear from another Sara(h) in SC. So those made me smile anyways. But wow... lets see... first you sent me so many things you made... so lovely! I love the different kinds of hair pins... the stone ones are so pretty! the yo yo ones are great because I have been trying out new hair clips and bows that are a little bigger and stand out more (trying to step out of my comfort zone)... and these are perfect-- very pretty but not huge and overwhelming! Now, the brooch! I freaking love this thing! I love the look of the hand dyed fabric! Again, the scarf... I love the hand dyed look! Last, I have no idea what tatting even is, but this charm is so pretty! Thank you so much!

Comment: Sarah, What you did finish is beautiful! Even my husband was impressed. Is this needle tatting or shuttle tatting? This swap was my very first attempt at tatting and I only accomplished straight chains and a few rings with picots. I didn't get any motifs because I couldn't figure out how to join the picots together. My favorite lace technique is crochet but I would love to learn more techniques and have attempted bobbin lace making, also. It was hard but tatting is by far the most difficult I have tried so far. I was told that I might find needle tatting easier by Tess. So that may be my next attempt. Happy lace making! :)
Response: That was needle tatting, as making chains is painful for me with a shuttle. I use those for ring only patterns. I learned what I know so far from how-to books with DVDs. The visual.compoonent was very necessary!

Comment: You hit the nail on the head. The square brought tears and fond memories of my son when he was a baby. I used to sing "You Are My Sunshine" to him every morning when I woke him up. Even at 36 I sing it to him sometimes. Not as appreciative as he was then though. Wish I could give you a gazillion hearts. I think I wiill frame it for him. Again, thanks a bunch. It was worth the wait.

Response: I unfortunately don't know the year - the stamp was shoved into a ziploc baggie I found at an antique store. Most of them are from the 60s-80s that I can tell.

Response: It's definitely a personality thing - I love the meditative nature of tatting, but can definitely see that the process wouldn't be for everyone! And your tree is only size 20 thread - true tatting thread is 70 or 80, even tinier! So glad you like your bookmark...

Response: My first pinhole was from a kit, made out of cardboard, and it works swimmingly. Give them a try - developing at a lab is hit and miss due to uneven spacing, but I have fun with it.

Response: I sent this in a message, but just in case anyone else wants the info, I thought I would put it here too: The seed packet did give some instructions about planting...it said to till the soil at least a few inches deep, fertilize well with manure, and plant the seed about an inch deep. Water well once, let it sprout, then don't overwater after that. I've never tried it before, but am looking forward to making the attempt!

Then I read about the hand carved stamps, I thought how clever, I wish I could do those. Image my delight when I discovered not ONLY the lovely scarf, but the stamps!!!
Response: I am so glad you liked it! I had a lot of fun carving those for you. You can actually get started pretty cheaply, too - practice on dollar store erasers with lino carvers or craft blades. I love the book Art Stamping Workshop...I hardly ever use store bought stamps now, it seems!

Response: Oh, how funny! I actually used cayenne to stop ants coming in recently (don't use it in a windy spot indoors, or you can end up in pain!) and it worked quite well. As well as the two bottles of Raid I used in college...but that idea caught me and wouldn't let go, which is good, because I originally tried to crochet a trowel, and it looked nothing like a trowel! Enjoy looking...but yes, that is real cayenne in the soap, so no putting it on hands!

Response: I use shrink plastic--I sand it, apply chalks, and stamp with Stazon ink, then use a circle cutter to dut out shapes. Spray sealant makes them more durable!

OMFG, I got the most ADORABLE monster in the mail today!!! *Is soooo giddy over him* What an amazing job you did on this guy, he has got to be the cutest thing I've seen in a long while!!! An owl-topus? Genious!!! I LOVE the black and white stripes, so Tim Burton-esque! His eyes are so damn cute!!! He caught my daughters eye right away and she asked to sleep with him tonight. She couldn't get over how soft he is;) Everytime I looked oveer at him I got a huge smile. Today hasn't been the best but you sure did make it better! Comment: So.... I love the dancing cats card (even tho' they have tails ;-P) and then I open the little wrapped package... WOOHOO! a VERY ultra cool alter tile so now I'm scrabbling to open the rest just as slow to saver... the box is next O.M.G. the bone necklace is gorgeous! I put it on with my jeans and t shirt and pose in front of the mirror. Love it! now the larger wrapped package.. SHE IS ABSOLUTELY LOVELY!!! I have her propped up on my altar where she will stay for a few days before I find a secret spot for her in the garden :-)
