Response: We have a handful of great small international markets in our town (Middle Eastern, Indian, LatinX, and Asian), but that H Mart was definitely a whole different level!
Response: Not long after that nightmare, I discovered there was a place 2 blocks from us where I could have printed it! [i forget if i told you that in the mailing, the timing is a blur at this point... :^]
Response: I didn't end up going to the quilt show due to transportation issues. :^( I figured out later than I could have gotten there via bikeshare bikes, but that would have limited purchases for sure!
Response: thank you for the kind words; i'm glad you liked it!
Response: thanks for the kind words; i'm glad you liked it! Our library used to have workshops for carving stamps, which was good to get a taste of how it goes without having to invest in supplies :^)
Response: Yosemite should be fun to profile! I think I might have had the Dance zine as well - is there a page with dance notation? That was me, and it was my answer to the struggle :^)
Response: Someone should file a false advertising lawsuit against them :^)
Response: Thanks for your kind words!
Response: I got a bit freaked out by some earlier episodes of Demon Slayer, but my son told me to stick it out. So I can see how that might happen. I'm still loving Bride's Tale!
Response: Thank you for your kind words - glad you liked the print!
Response: He loved Glacier - and I enjoyed seeing his pictures :^).
Response: The concert was wonderful!
Response: Thanks for the recipe book recovery suggestion. The punch outs (and lack of signatures) are indeed the dilemma! Page protectors is probably the best approach. My sister had a book with primarily hand-written recipes (mine are a mix of hand-written and print); one of her daughters rebound it for her but that one didn't start life spiral-bound.
Response: Thanks for the kind words! DM sent; summary version is I colored a foam printing plate with water soluble markers, then printed onto damp paper.
Response: Thanks for the kind words!
Response: Thanks Angie! Any possibility you could send me a picture of it? I realized the one I took was uselessly blurry AFTER I dropped it in the mailbox!
Response: Yeah, neither Amelie nor Travelocity would likely adopt these gnomes - glad you liked the card despite the oddball gnome!
Response: thanks Rome - this made me tear up again...
Response: Oh no, I'm so sad it got destroyed! I will post it on flickr so you can see what it was supposed to look like.
Posted on flickr: https://flickr.com/photos/cazatoma/51776363454/
Response: tyeah, it was kind of freaky. I really need to find a good source of botanical squash for my series :^)
Response: My sister gave me a book titled "Make Ink" and it has directions for various things. Walnut husks are pretty simple; pokeweed berries were harder (they're poisonous, for one thing!). I'll put some more notes on your page.
Response: I also made the pokeberry ink and it's been so much fun to play around with!
Response: Thank you for the kind words - I'm glad it arrived safely!
Response: I'm sorry about that! I know names are important. Was it missing an L? I will be more careful if we are partnered up again.
Response: Thank you for the kind words; I'm glad you like it!
Response: (and that's the beer he drank tonight; claims they changed the label on the bottle)
Response: I'm trying to imagine that now! Maybe rolling it around while the metal cap is still on??
Response: Vinyl is back in vogue but CDs are somehow obsolete? Technology! It's a scam :^)
Response: Thanks for your patience! I like doing collage too, but this theme compelled me to paint :^.
Response: Brief moment of confusion; is that the letter from the originator of the zine?
Response: Thanks for the kind words; I'm glad you liked it!
Response: snow here on the 20th - sigh. "Are those trees with white flowers? Nope, that's an evergreen. It's snow."
Response: Kinda funny that Cincy folks are headed to Indiana. Where do Indy folks drive to for their shots? Maybe NE IN go to SW MI and we get a full circle...
Response: Sending the replacement was the cosmic karmic kick that got the other one moving. (I bought a couple sheets of those dragon stamps but still feel like hoarding them instead of using them - must be the dragon in me :^)
Response: Glad it got there! I just yesterday received a card sent in December, although that one did have to come from England... (PS the card I sent to Texas arrived a month before yours, but the one sent to Iowa is still MIA. I guess proximity doesn't help much!)
Response: I hear ya - it took me a while! I do have a couple where I just can't bring myself to cut, even though I snagged them for that purpose.
Response: I've never even seen squash played - maybe i should track it down on youtube...
Response: Sleeping Bear Dunes is a wonderful place! Glad the story hid a chord.
Response: Thank you for the kind words; glad you like them.
Response: I'm glad it arrived as last! Cookies I sent to my dad via priority mail on Dec 21 arrived 3 weeks laterI And I just received something postmarked Dec 23rd. Crazy delays this past month.
Response: Thanks for the kind words; glad you liked it!
Response: Oh no, sorry to read about your hospitalization. I hope your recovery goes well from this point forward!
Response: You can definitely find bizcochitos recipes online (state cookie of New Mexico!) but butterballs might be trickier. There are lots of different names for them. The recipe I use is for "nut butter balls" and comes from the (c) 1958 Good Housekeeping's Book of Cookies. :^
Response: won't it be great when we can once again hear other people perform words *in person*?
Response: I'm glad you like it - now I need to track down the video as well!
Response: I'm glad you liked it! :^)
Response: Such great illustrations in the ones I've rescued from the library free shelf. (Sniff. Our library is still pandemically closed.)
Response: It was just a semi-abstract landscape, inspired by the workshop video I watched. Sort of mountains, I guess.
Response: I'm glad you liked it - that gelatin print helped pull it all together. I'm sad the series is ending; it was hard to wrap my brain around at first but it was such a unique idea!
Response: My husband and I are actually tempted to visit to run the parkrun, giving us an "E" for our name badges!
Response: Thanks for the kind words - I'm glad you liked it!
Response: i was a little worried that window might get mangled by postage equipment - glad it made it!
Response: Good idea! I'm thinking of redoing my snowflakes, because that lino block seems to be deteriorating.
Response: I'm so glad you liked it! When we were digging our vegetable garden at our first house here in Michigan, i kept transplanting the violets - my husband was similarly skeptical - and the next spring i discovered how abundant they were and transplanting was redundant :^) But i still have a hard time not saving them if i dig one up, because of the connection to my mom.
Response: I've been hearing ads for some cable TV channel series of the first two books of Dublin Murder Squad - we don't have cable so I wonder if they're going to be true to the books!
Response: Glad it showed up - thanks for the kind words! :^)
Response: I'm sorry to dredge up such sad memories! But the stamp can soothe the pain. (My husband used one of mine for some ordinary mail - that's when I decided to stash "my" stamps in a separate area!)
Response: I'm imagining that mail carriers between me and you have been using that mustache and then wedging it back into place. Or maybe just eyeing it, wondering if they COULD do that. Because why would it take so long otherwise?? ::^)
Response: Ooh, you said I have flare - I'm honored! :^)
Response: Glad you liked the card - hope you can see a blue morpho in person some day :^)
Response: Kinda bummed I missed signing up for the T swap, although I suppose picking a trichia-something might be fudging on "new"
Response: i'm glad you liked it!
Response: Glad you liked it! Any chance you could send me a photo? I forgot to scan it before sending it off.
Response: Rejected Q words: quadrable; quadratojugal; quadragenarious; quadricostate; quadrifarious; quadrifid; quadrigenarious; quadrilocular; quadrumanous; quatch; quemeful; quiddative; quinquagesima; quodlibetical; quondam.
Response: Thanks! I used a blade and self-healing mat for all that fussy cutting.
Response: I got the address area idea from my sending partner - i've never done that in the past but saw how useful it could be!
Response: Thanks for the kind words! So far the books still sit in a pile - I'm leaning towards cutting them up b/c the logistics of selling overwhelm me.
Response: the EYES have it! :^)
Response: i suspect there are better photos of it in other sources, but i haven't tracked them down myself...
Response: Glad you liked it!
Response: Glad you liked it! Edgar Allen Poe-Tato Farmer is perhaps my most favorite postage person ever :^)
Response: that big-eared pig was based on Wilbur on a poster for the Charlotte's Web movie. His feet are all wrong though. :^)
Response: Sorry about that! i usually write a swap name at the top of a postcard or maybe on the envelope for something that is sent in an envelope. Not sure how I overlooked it.
Response: thanks for the kind words. (i love Ann Arbor too - even moreso after just returning from the town i mostly grew up in... :^)
Response: Did your violets have a distinctive taste? I forget if I mentioned this in note to you, but a local naturalist told me a few things about why mine might not have had much flavor (including that the species in my yard might not everhave much aroma/flavor!)
Response: Thanks for the kind words! I've decided the marker method is the best one for color transfer with those plates.
Response: Glad we got that definition straightened up, huh? :^)
Response: Glad we're okay on the falls because I love waterfalls! :^)
Folding minizines can be tricky the first few times - see if this helps: http://bussnova.com/zine-folding/zine-fold-digitally-interfaced-book-paper-graphite-makey-makey-zine-folding/
Response: hmmm, I'm not very patient with lines... but i do like trying new-to-me foods... maybe I'll risk it :^)
Response: i blame the foam surface!
Response: You're right, they're not alone - but they are unique in it was government action and then refusal to admit wrong that caused the lead poisoning. It was very frustrating to listen to!
Response: the violets started blooming this week - yay!
Response: that poem certainly describes my experience (with the two or three i've managed to spot)
Response: Thanks for the kind words
Response: I'm glad you liked them!
Response: Glad you like them David! It was fun to carve.
Response: maybe he went to italy first...
Response: Thanks for the kind words! Apparently the root oozes a red sap, but I've never investigated that aspect. Maybe this year I will...
Response: My 18yo did an analysis of one of his dad's favorite picture books for an English class last year. A project on Jan Brett would be fascinating!
Response: oh no! hardly charming if it's only glue (and maybe a giraffe?). I've been using mod-podge almost exclusively after having trouble with other glues, but now mod-podge is letting me down. Let me post it to Flickr so you can see what it looked like when i dropped it in the mailbox... ETA: scanned version here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/cazatoma/32706322158/
Response: oops, did i say it was TP? It was kleenex. They put some nice designs on their boxes sometimes.
Response: I'm glad the Kindle got there - sorry again about the address mix-up.
Response: thanks for noticing :^)
Response: oh no, that would have been mailartistically tragic if the octopod had escaped. but then again, they are noted escape artists! (I used mod podge but that slippery surface might've needed more)
Response: Glad that one arrived. (TBH I kind of like it better)
Response: creepy was harder than i thought it might be...
Response: Drat! I guess the flowers aren't as valuable as I'd inferred. [although are you sure that camera lockup is secure?? :^]
Response: What a nice coincidence! Our food bank is also part of America's Second Harvest. [insert carrot emoji :^]
Response: glad you like it - thanks for the kind words!
Response: Hmm, not entirely sure - I probably used craft quality acrylic paint. I make my own gelatin plate (rather than the commercial ones) - not sure if that makes a difference. And the paper was either Canson mixed media paper or greeting card paper (Jo-Ann's/Michael's multipack).
Response: I have more tickets - maybe we can time travel together! :^)
Response: Thank you. I like to make envelopes from calendar pages - I'm on the calendar mailing list for multiple charities. The accordion zine was kind of tricky to do, a nice challenge!
Response: Glad you liked them. The accordion zine was tricky to do at the time, a nice challenge. (We had various other constraints beyond the tricky fold, e.g include a french word, picture of an accordion, other stuff i'm forgetting.)
Response: Ah man, I told the monster to use bobby pins to secure their hat but they refused. Sorry about that! And I love your spikey doodle.
Response: Have you calculated those dimensions yet?? :^)
Response: Great minds think alike! (on that cherry blossom theme :^)
Response: My original intention was to include that info on the card, but sometimes intentions are not met :^)
top: green whip snake - giant gecko - winter skate
bottom: king vulture - cuttlefish - cat
Response: Glad you liked it - thanks for the kind words!
Response: The 14yo gave me two of those EqEx mint chocolate bars for Christmas - yumminess indeed :^)
Response: Oh no, that's not good! I can send you a replacement. The original ATC is on my flickr: https://www.flickr.com/photos/cazatoma/27526245568/
Response: With you as the recipient and corgis as the predominant result in a search for "yellow dogs," the choice was obvious! :^)
Response: Any excuse to eat pie is a winner :^)
Response: I am nothing if not indecisive... :^)
Response: I hope you overcome the blahs soon - maybe you need to come north and get a blast of cold air :^)
Response: Thank you, it was fun to make.
Response: Glad it made it this time!
Response: Glad you liked it; thanks for the kind words!
Response: Thanks, the class has been fun so far. I finished my first reduction print (one of them is posted on Flickr) and am trying to decide on my next design...
Response: Thanks for the observation :^)
Response: thanks for the Pratchett tip - i will track that down!
Response: The thing that continues to amaze me about mondo mascots is how SO MANY entities have a mascot: the region, the town, the drug store chain, the brand of enemas sold in the drug store - it's a whole world I never knew existed!!
Response: So glad you like it!
Response: Thanks! I was just looking at the scan again and noticed the reindeer looks a bit startled :^)
Response: thanks, it was fun to make
Response: Glad you like it. I enjoyed the challenge of limiting my materials to one source.
Response: Oh no, sorry about the cats - glad they made it! I get nervous about using mod podge over paint (have had too many smears), but I have a feeling that might have been acrylic paint or block printing ink so it probably would have been safe. Anyway, the background was from my last frenzy of gelatin plate prints - the fuzzy white is from some novelty yarn, and the red is from something like a mesh produce bag.
Response: Early decision deadline is tomorrow! But he's not 100% sure he wants to commit so might wait for standard decision... [sigh - i think he's making it more stressful than it need be, but it's not my decision so..........]
Response: glad someone appreciates my lame humor :^)
Response: Planning your errands around game time: sounds like Ann Arbor! :^)
Response: Thank you for the kind words - you put a smile on my face :^)
Response: Glad it made it there on time! We were also on-and-off cloudy. Clouds went away at the peak time but came back (and mostly stayed) about 5 minutes later. 85% eclipsed here if i remember correctly.
Response: Thanks! This was inspired by one i saw online. I used ultra fine staedtler pens, and made dotty outlines around lids for the main elements, then filled in between them with more dots. By the way, Z's team ended up winning the tournament so overall the trip was a success.
Response: sorry to make it hard for you - maybe I should have just done the head instead of head & arms. And ooh, looks like i didn't rate for round #37 - thanks for the reminder.
Response: Thank you for the kind words. I'm sad the markings ended up on the painting - didn't they used to put all that on the address side? :-(
Response: Glad you liked them! I usually make extra copies of my zines and then they sit in a folder, so it was nice to have an opportunity to send them on.
Response: I received that camel stamp a few days earlier in another swap!
Response: you know your vegetable cross-sections! :^)
Response: We ended up not going to the auto show; instead, we went to Gold Coast Bentley and ogled their swank rides. (We discovered it 2 years ago - it's just a couple blocks from the John Hancock Building.)
Response: We rode the ferris wheel and Navy Pier - it was a beautiful day and the sun was in our eyes as we tried to catch the view from up high :^)
Response: We haven't had nearly enough snow here.
Response: The author is a great speaker - must be her historian / storyteller background.
Response: thanks! the alignment is trickier than the book leads one to believe :^)
Response: I know, right? Those monster chickens are scary!! :^)
Response: Glad you liked it! I was concerned it was a bit too much like the sources you'd posted, but since most people haven't seen any of it I decided that's okay. re: the origami: did I tell you that I once made a bunch of lobster ornaments for my sister? She's lost many of them, and I can no longer find the directions.
Response: The dogs are from a sheet of paper of forgotten provenance. It sort of looks like a small sheet of wrapping paper, except it's not folded or wrinkled so that seems unlikely. It's a mystery!
Response: When mushrooms attack!
http://northernwoodlands.org/outside_story/article/mushrooms-attack
Response: Thanks for the tip. I've never used modeling paste. I have had gesso add texture before, maybe I needed to let it dry some more first??
Response: I did better than I expected (given my injury) but not as good as I'd hoped when I first started training. I guess I'll have to run again next year!
Response: I have finished Textbook AKR now - it's an interesting concept, although I think my eyes are too old/weak for enjoying all the interactive bits on my phone screen. I'm gonna have to go back and browse the web components from my desktop computer.
Response: I have finished Textbook AKR now - it's an interesting concept, although I think my eyes are too old/weak for enjoying all the interactive bits on my phone screen. I'm gonna have to go back and browse the web components from my desktop computer.
Response: Are you not a Yooper?? The Michigan kind? If not, forgive the use of insider jargon :^)
Response: I did indeed use birds especially for you - always looking for an excuse to use those old textbooks!
Response: thanks! a replacement for the lost one will be in the mail tomorrow (9/13)
Yes, that's the book! It's kind of a hoot.
Response: I'm glad you liked it - and thanks for such detailed feedback! The A2 Comic Arts Festival is a good time - mid-June every year!
Response: glad to know there are still kids who like puzzles and word games, even though mine don't!
Response: Even summer is nice in that part of Michigan. :^)
Response: Mohonk was soooo fancy to my small town girl sensibilities. Dress for dinner! Classes 'round the clock! Custom activities for all ages! (And probably couldn't have afforded it had it not been for the conference...)
Response: Oh my! The postal people between our two houses certainly like to get creative, don't they? :^)
Response: If you're happy and you know it, the chemtrails are working!
Response: thank you for the kind words - glad you like it!
Response: for *days*? Yikes! Mine was more like hours. I once made the mistake of eating a shrimp puff in Boston's Chinatown ("how much shrimp could be in it?" I mistakenly thought) the night before I was scheduled to present at a conference. And I needed to finish polishing the presentation. That was a lonnnnngggg night!
Response: My apologies, I didn't realize "probably 4 or 5" was a requirement. I will make and send another batch.
Response: A replacement square is in the mail!
Response: I like that name! By the way, packing tape transfers are pretty easy if you have the right materials. Here's one tutorial: http://tinkerlab.com/clear-tape-image-transfer-technique/
Response: Argh! Sorry to hear that. I even used modpodge instead of glue stick. I will send you a new one (but am about to leave on a trip, so it might be a week before i can send it out).
Edited 4 July 2-16 to add: posted a new version today, sent in envelope for added safety!
Response: Okay, you definitely win for most intense job! Wow.
Response: I suspect the original beagles went in search of the missing popes (lost going from me to the Netherlands) or Alonzo the yeticorn (lost on the way from Vermont to me)! :^)
Response: Favorite New Taste would be a great swap! My kids were not too impressed with our meals in Costa Rica, except for the fruits, juices, and ice cream. :^) And the oldest discovered he liked grilled steak (!$$!)
Response: polls low. [someone else's political commentary that I found on twitter or some such...]
Response: Pangolins are cool looking! But unfortunately, also heavily trafficked for 'traditional' medicines so quite endangered.
Response: Pangolins are cool looking! But unfortunately, also heavily trafficked for 'traditional' medicines so quite endangered.
Response: I'm glad you like it!
Response: only 8 more months until they start campaigning for 2020! :^O
Response: i ended up finding the original the next day, so that should arrive in a day or two!
Response: Glad you liked it! I often get stuck with creator's block when starting a zine, but have so much fun once I get over the hump. And I'm envious that you get to watch kingfishers; I've only had one furtive glance but now that I know they're along the river I'm going to try harder to see them again.
Response: Thanks for the kind words - glad you liked them!
Response: Thanks for letting me know about the paint - I wasn't sure how many layers of fixative it might need!
Response: glad you like it - it was my 3rd idea but so much more satisfying than the first 2! I even had an antarctica stamp, maybe I should have put it on the back :^)
Response: What? That's a tragedy. I'll have to post it on Flickr so you can see what fell off...
Response: Glad you liked the card! I didn't know about the offshoot, but I'm sure my son would have told me if I otherwise missed it.
Here's my review of WTNV from goodreads: "I just finished the 401 page factual report about the events that led to WTNV episode 76 (The Epilogue), and I would give it 3.5 stars. Although the characters and plot mostly stand alone from the podcast, I have this vague (but not menacing) feeling that you need to be familiar with Night Vale from that setting to truly enjoy the book." :^)
Response: I was sad when they put the customs form over some of the decorations! Maybe it comes off before delivery? (My school drop-off ritual/saying: "Have a good day, and a good idea, and don't forget to be awesome." )
Response: My parents in southeastern New Mexico got 18 inches of snow this week! Alas, we were not there. On the bright side, we also weren't home in MI for the nasty ice storm...
Response: Thanks - we did have fun. Sunny and warm. Now back to dreary gray (but not yet snowy) Michigan...
Response: glad you like it!
Response: I'm listening to it again and it is still beautiful yet heart breaking
Response: ah yes, the book referred to him as fierce. But take him out of the army and he's just another friendly mahout!
Response: Berkeley due in 2 days - aaaaaahhhhhhh! Will I survive the stress?? And why does every app have it's own set of essays? So much for "common" app. Poor kids.
Response: There was an older Zane as our K-8 school, and there is a Zain that my son plays lacrosse with. (I refer to him as "Zain with an i" :^) They are both midfielders, so sometimes there's a double-Zane line and I can yell "go Zanes!"
Response: Thanks! Gingkos have super cool leaves - our city planted a number of them as street trees and I have this mini-obsession every fall to pick up a variety of their different forms...
Response: Glad you like it! I have quite a collection of gallery cards, although the main place I used to pick them up has closed. :^(
Response: Based on a class I took a couple years ago, the method that works best for me is to dip one of those "chartpak" blender markers into liquid xylene before applying it, rub with bone folder or the like. Ventilation needed! Our instructor bought a big bottle of xylene at a home improvement store and let us take some home in glass jars; i gather it's primarily available in giant jugs!
Response: I thought it was a joke when I first saw the brochure! But once I started doing postcard swaps, I wished I had picked up more!
Response: glad you liked it!
Response: thanks for the kind words - glad you liked it!
Response: weird - i remember stamping it! but this suggests it must be my postal workers who are overly picky about "postage due" enforecement! (or did you have to pay up to get it??)
Response: I'll have to look for that book! Did you see the google doodle featuring Anna Atkins back in March? One story here: http://www.washingtonpost.com/news/comic-riffs/wp/2015/03/16/anna-atkins-google-celebrates-pioneering-photographic-author-with-blue-birthday-doodle/
Response: I'm glad they arrived this time
Response: thanks - glad you liked it! :^)
Response: Thanks for the kind words. I'm looking forward to skiing in Ruidoso - my boys haven't skied on a real mountain yet! (just Michigan hills)
Response: yikes on the poison ivy - that would definitely damper my enthusiasm for collecting!
Response: I hope it ends soon, for your sake! That must be really frustrating for everyone.
Response: Thanks! I did find the missing page a few days later - and of course it's gone missing again. I really need a dedicated studio space...
Response: I can relate: I often get mail for same house number but street one block over - makes me wonder if he gets my mail and never sends it on!
Response: We did have a good time - it was very freeing to not have to worry about cars at all!
Response: oh good, i'm glad you like them! Thanks for the kind words :^)
Response: I've had a hard time parting with those triangular stamps, even though my rational brain tells me they aren't much use to anyone sitting in the glassine! Glad you like it.
Response: The one I received also took a long route, despite just coming from Chicago. Weird how that happens some times.
Response: and then middle son went and broke his ankle on Father's Day. The fun never ends! :^o
Response: I recently picked up one for the 2014 festival - these ones are hand-colored!
Response: hey, we're 2-for-2 in the last 4 games and you're ahead in the current game! :^)
[p.s. saw the photos of your grandkids (?) in the bluebonnets - so cute!]
Response: what? no blooms yet? sad for you :^( Glad the doggies could help overcome it a bit!
Response: Are you saying "Ewwww" to the brand of sarcasm I used, or the insect picture??? :^0
Response: if i send it in a baggy, it might get misinterpreted as, you know... something else.
Response: The dry ice didn't protect the comment? Dang.
Response: Wow, you're really committed. Was it free-range organic sarcasm?
Response: self-righteousness is a dime a dozen around here...
Response: Oh good, I'm glad it was interesting to you! It was fun to make.
Response: My son has been reading Frankenstein for his English class (grade 10) - I didn't realize it was set in Switzerland!
Response: okay, is it the pink or lavender where our eyes behold differently? The lavender does look kind of grey to me...
Response: Thanks! The nice thing about the homemade gelatin plates is that you can trash or compost it after a few weeks :^)
Response: I made my own from Knox gelatin.
Response: I've definitely lucked out with those! Our thrift shops don't have good postcard selection, but that discard cart has served me well :^)
Response: There's no right or wrong way to do it - I'm sure your pig was great too! Glad you liked the horse.
Response: He's mad at the snow for continuing to fall when he can't take advantage of it, but no pain! (and much more freedom with cast instead of splint+sling).
Response: Other than the polar vortex frigidity, it's been a fine year :^)
Response: Thanks for the insider tip. The one I received also inspired me to try again, so maybe I haven't given up on them entirely :^)
Response: This would be the year for carving creepy apple dolls in Michigan - bumper crop! Maybe I should gather some of the ones that drop on the sidewalk on the way to my kids' school...
Response: You are welcome! Although I sometimes make fabric postcards, I didn't make that one - someone sent it to me in a swap. I think she might have bought it at a store but I can't be 100% sure any more. You're probably right about the big horn sheep, but it's funny to think of someone sneaking up behind them to get some fleece...
Response: I'm glad you liked it and glad to know everything stayed on! The desk clerk seemed a bit concerned about that point. The roving customer service agent (what's up with that?) who talked to me in line admired it and asked if it could be reused.
Response: Thanks! Glad it arrived safely - I had my doubts about the various adhesive technologies I used :^)
Response: Laughing is my goal. And I promise I won't serve you my favorite coconut green tea if you deliver those truffles in person :^)
Response: The laugh is always my goal with those ransom notes :^)
Response: I felt a bit bad when I saw it was going back to you! Maybe you write a story or draw something with pink & green pens... [P.S. saw Bill Lepp on your Tumblr - I've seen him in person here in A2 and that picture captures how I remember him!]
Response: Does your Mtn TBR suffer from frequent book slides? :^)
Response: I had never heard of any of the books on the PC I received - looks like this swap is making us all better informed. :^) And I hope you enjoy Navigating Early - more people need to read it.
Response: Class of '83 FTW :^)
Response: I used emergency German - in Brazil of all places! (turns out southern Brazil had a lot of german immigrants)
Response: I realized after I sent it, that I have 5 red twig dogwoods waiting to be planted! (Duh.) But they have a smaller flower.
Response: I'm glad you liked it! I wasn't entirely sure at first either, but saw a few others had done and figured I would treat it like a giant postcard. It was fun to do!
Response: Okay, how did you get korean into a swapbot comment??
But funny - my husband was waffling about whether to write Nyoo-tun or Noo-tun and I told him to use the latter (i wanted to leave for the post office and he was slowing me down!)
Response: Looks like I'm in good company :^) i figured it was a better exercise than yet another sketch of my shoe (spent many a youth baseball game sketching shoes last summer!)
Response: What a fun coincidence! Small world, indeed.
Response: We did a walking tour - the river tour wasn't going to start until the week after we were there. My oldest son got to do the boat tour when he visited in 7th grade, and the middle son will go this June. Someday I will get to do it!
Response: What, you haven't been to Carlsbad? They're gonna revoke your NM residency :^) I've been to C'bad, Blanchard Springs, one of the many Mammoth Cave tours, Tom Sawyer Cave in MO, a place in the Netherlands, and somewhere in Texas that I can't remember the name of. Perhaps somewhere else as a child. Hey, that's more than I realized!
Response: That is hilarious about the hotel! Did you take home the postcard from the stationery folder to commemorate the event, or will mine have to serve that purpose?? :^)
Response: Oops, sorry. I was having problems with modge-podge for some reason I can't remember now, and was avoiding it. Apparently I need to reconsider again! Glad the critters made it.
Response: No way, we eat those things like they're going out of style (because they ARE! or at least going out of stock...)
Response: That was the good thing with the series by Patricia Moyes - she's no longer with us, so no waiting for an update... but on the other hand, I wish there were more of her Henry Tibbetts books!
Response: Chicago was fun. It snowed a bit on the 21st, much more on the 26th, but now (alas) it is melting away. But the kids got more sledding in than last winter, I think, so that's a good thing!
Response: It was not, however, quasi-automotive :^)
So glad you liked it!! I was a teeny bit anxious that it wasn't complex enough, but then again, that wasn't the driving purpose of this swap...
Response: My dad went to UH, too! But only for 1 year - he graduated from UNM. Or was it the other way around? Bad daughter, I can't remember...
Response: Glad you liked it! Maybe the light is muddy in Michigan and golden in Alaska :^)
Response: Thanks for the kind words! As best I understand it, gesso is more like a paint primer - a bottom layer not an adhesive as far as I know. I have some that is transparent and some that is white - I sometimes mix acrylics with it for a tint.
Response: glad you like it!
Response: Glad you liked both! I wasn't entirely sure I was proud of the print, so thought I'd send two :^)
Response: Thanks for the kind words! I did the lino prints at the library workshop and they provided Speedball printing inks (if i remember correctly).
Response: Well it was supposed to be a CHALLENGE, right? :^)
Response: I just now tried to find lyrics for "Starfishing" by Green Chili Jam Band, but they don't seem to be online anywhere. That's what I was hearing in my head while I did the work :^)
Response: Bland is the perfect word for it! I'm wondering if anybody will ever bid on the eBay one...
(and if this was a fundraiser for the group, no wonder I can't find any recent pictures of the building!)
Response: The fabric came from an upholstery sample book, so it might be some kind of suede!
Response: I'm glad it's recognizable as QAL :^)
Response: I'm glad I was able to send some of those Dawn Treader postcards to someone who would appreciate them! It was hard to pick between Caspian and Reepicheep, so I decided to send them both :^)
Response: Zentangling always impresses the neighborhood kids - and then to do it on an envelope incites all kinds of questions. I think they got it in the end (i guess my boys should send them mail art next time we're on vacation!)
Response: Thanks! Verdigogh is surprisingly hard, isn't it? I can't figure out how she gets the angles all natural looking in the example...
Response: Thanks! I always imagine "doodle" to be less structured, but I suppose overdoing it is better than the other way around!
Response: I'm glad to know it matches your kitchen! I like variegated yarns, but it doesn't quite knit up as I expected.
Response: No, the previous one was just a'cause I like you :^) Sorry about the confusion!
Response: My boys were annoyed that I was sending it off, so I guess I'll need to make one for us as well!
Response: I'm so glad you noticed and appreciated the stamp :^)
Response: I'm glad you liked it! I found a page with lots of different angles, and decided that close-up would be easiest (plus more likely to convey how big it is - too big for an ATC...). Thanks again for your patience with the delay!
Response: everyone always needs a new bookmark... :^)
Response: Glad you like it - thanks for your patience!
Response: I'm not sure when you lived here, but The Scrap Box has been here at least 10 years. Probably not worth a drive by itself, but a fun side trip!
Response: It was a .01 pen, but the tip was getting kinda wonky - maybe that made it even smaller. And sadly, I lost it the other day while out hiking :^( - time to buy a replacement, I guess! :^)
Response: I'm glad you like it!
Response: I've been having too much fun with gesso since you started the swap - I need to find a new direct to jump out of my current rut (or maybe not, maybe I'll just stay here until it dead ends :^)
Response: Glad you like them! And on the book: my husband bought it for my son as a Christmas present, but I'm not sure it was what he (DH) was expecting! It is interesting, though - I finally started reading it, in part b/c I saw de meng's name on your profile!
Response: yes, the iguana and the bird are from the Galapagos. The fruit fly was also from the Evolution book, but not the Galapagos as far as I know :^)
Response: I'm glad you like them! I wish I'd been able to find more anatomical stuff (with letters, of course :^).
Response: wow, that took a long time, but I'm glad it finally arrived, and I'm glad you liked it. I had fun with it :^)
Response: Very strange misdelivery! I wonder if that's where the first one ended up?? Or maybe Canada (same first and last letter! :^o )??
[I once had a letter addressed to me in NM 88201 delivered to MN 55201, but that was eons ago when they probably still did hand sorting!]
ETA: Oh, that's right - the dogwood was sent first, Cahokia second. I'm glad they both got there in the end!
Response: I have noticed that the pear is a bit aromatic! Moreso than the other...
Response: did you also get the gelatin print? i hope I didn't leave it out!
Response: Oh, I'm so sorry! I wonder how I managed to do that??
Response: you know what they say: great minds (almost) think alike! :^)
Response: Thanks for patiently waiting for my muse to strike! [or should that be: patiently waiting while my muse was on strike?? :^]
Response: Glad you like them - our pastels are just student grade but seem to work okay for a novice...
Response: Yes, I've used her site for patterns before too!
Response: Sorry about that - some of them fared better than others. The mod podge looks nicer than packing tape, but I guess I'll stick (no pun intended) with the packing tape for future leaf postcard!
Response: I'm glad you like it - that bird was actually Aztec-inspired clip art that I found online, with a few slight modifications. In retrospect, it was probably the Seussian aspect that appealed to me as well. :^)
Response: The set that came from definitely was cute - glad you liked it!
Response: Mail art: always a risky business. But I'm glad the leaves survived!
Response: Great minds think alike, at least part of the time. :^)
Response: Hey, I read Davidson as well! I'll have to look into the Swenson series.
Response: True confessions: I got that journal at a thrift shop for 25 cents. I thought it would be fun to try something different. You can always experiment with the blank pages at the back!
Response: Glad to hear it about the taggies, because I was planning to make one for a new baby neighbor this week!
Response: Thanks - the cash is in the mail! :^)
Response: Thanks! I love the scientific name almost as much as the bird :^)
Response: Hey Weed (or should I call you Office?), I just went through a steam sterilization process and put on a clean suit, so this response is ISO-1124 certified fur- and smoke-free. But sorry, the fries burned and the blue fudge melted in the process.
Response: This response was written in Bhutan in the year 1763. Slovakian translation: Tento rating bol napÃsaný v Bhutáne v roku 1763.
Response: I was glad to find someone who would appreciate it so much! :^)
Response: I did stitch Jack before Willie, but it doesn't matter in the end. Thanks for the kind words! Once I get started I really enjoy doing these. However, I get kind of obsessive about picking the 'perfect' design rather than just starting!
Response: I'm glad you like it - it was fun to do something a little bit out of the ordinary!
Response: wow, it got there fast once I mailed it! Glad you like it :^)
Response: The silver pen that I wrote with is a Bic Gel "Roller Intensity Metallic Colors" - I got 'em a while ago!
Response: You're welcome - it was fun to draw!
Response: I'm glad you like the moth - I'd love to see one someday!
Response: I'm glad you like it - looks like it moved quickly, once I finally put it in a mailbox! :^o
Response: I'm not sure what I used on yours! I use a lot of box board. I think yours might have been the box a Kinko's-printed calendar came in (box board, but white inside!).
Response: I'm glad you like it - it was fun to make!
Response: Pi(e) Day parties are totally fun (and low stress if you make it a bring-your-own-pie event). We started the last two at 1:59, but since 3.14 will be on a Monday in 2011 we're going to have to rethink that.
Response: Did they light up your life? :^) Or at least light up your mailbox??
Response: Thanks - I'm glad you like it! I have a really fine micron pen that I like to use for zentangles, I forget where I got it.
Response: I'm glad the replacement card didn't get lost - hope Alex liked it. :^)
Response: Yay for beagles! You probably weren't looking for a cartoon one, but maybe it'll be an okay reminder of your beloved pet for now.
Response: I figured you would like a&c tile, but had no idea on the rest! I'm tickled pink. The bike trumpet is the logo of some record label, and was found on an ad in a ReadyMade mag.
Response: Gum. Just kidding! I'm pretty sure I used Mod Podge on that one - both to adhere the stuff initially, then a top coat to keep it on. I'm glad the replacement arrived!!
Response: Thanks for the kind words - I'm glad you like it!
Response: fwiw, I prefer fruit pies, with not too much added sugar... :^)
Response: I'm glad you liked it - this was fun! How long should I wait for the chocolate? :^)
Response: Good guess on my part, huh? :^)
Response: Oh good, I'm glad you like it! I was a bit nervous about it, too. I meant to glue down the Davy Rothbart photo inside the front cover, but I forgot about it until after I sealed the package.
Response: Glad you liked them! I'll send you a (real) email with an overview and links to a couple of tutorials.
Response: I'm glad it made you laugh out loud - I had such fun doing this. And I can't wait to get my 2.19 lbs of chocolate. :^) (Maybe you don't believe me, but the wool has been gathered!)
Response: Thanks for the kind words. Goodness, if the envelope got mangled, I'm also glad they survived - I don't know if my brain and left hand could handle the challenge of drawing another ATC so soon. :^)
Response: I'll send you a PM about it - www.biokids.umich.edu is the associated site but the curriculum is not very website-dependent.
Response: I had to pack up my office week before last, for a short term move, and I found over a dozen fortunes in my desk drawer - so I just knew I had to use some on your postcard!
Response: Dagnabbit! (cowboy talk :^) I even used a couple layers of modgepodge. I'll put a photo of it on Flickr and send you the URL.
Response: It's in Cologne (Köln auf Deutsch). That picture came from a German language workbook rescued off the library "free" shelf, and was selected to pander to your architecture interest. :^) The kooky little alien guy appears regularly in the book.
Response: It was probably visiting Arkansas from Texas. :^)
Response: I'm glad you like it - it was fun to make!
Response: I'm glad you enjoyed it!
Response: The homework is, of course, optional. :^)
Response: Oh good, I'm glad you liked it! Please let me know if you figure out something to do with that other base.
Response: You are welcome - I had a lot of fun making that one!
Response: Maybe someone in the postal system has that lost zentangle in their work zone :^) - I was happier with the results on the one you got, it seemed to 'flow' more naturally.
Response: We have a storm in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow - who knows what crazy things that boy will think up this time! :^)
Response: Thanks for the kind words - the sashiko was "practice" mainly because of the size. You got the best part of it - I was pleased to see that it was the perfect size for a bookmark.
Response: I'm so glad you like it!
Response: OUCH indeed! And scary. Some funnel web spiders do spin fascinating webs, though. Did you see this story a few years ago, about the giant spider web(s) in a park in Texas? It must have been amazing to see!
http://www.texasento.net/Social_Spider.htm
Response: Oh no! I'm so sorry. This is what it looked like before I sent it:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/cazatoma/4314769836/in/set-72157622948730758/
I'll try again...
Response: You are welcome - I'm glad you like it!
Response: The text on the front was part of the napkin - if I put text on the address side (I don't remember now!) it came from the same textbook as the lobster and the crayfish. :^)
Response: Thank you - I had fun drawing these! And the notecards were from a sort of thrift shop. I had a hard time parting with them, so I just kept reminding myself that I got them to use, not to store... :^)
Response: Thanks for the compliment! And now I'm curious: did you get the one you saw on Flickr, or the peacock feather looking one? I usually forget to keep track of what I send where!
Response: I'm glad you like them! I was inspired in part by the ones I got from @Carroll.
Response: I almost made a card from leaves, too, but hesitated for the same reason! I did send a couple of those to people here in the US. [And despite what I said, I haven't posted more fall photos on Flickr yet - they're on a different computer and I haven't made it a priority yet.]
Response: Try felting inside cookie cutters - it's a good way to get nice shapes when you are starting out!
Response: yay, one has arrived! I didn't honestly think you would mind the color, but I was surprised to find I hadn't made any blue ones. :^)
Response: Oh good, I'm glad to know the wool wasn't a problem. Thanks for letting me know!
Response: I'm glad you like them - I've really enjoyed this series!
Response: Maybe it'll show up someday yet...
Response: but they taste SOOO good. duuuuude....
Response: Thank you - and thanks for your patience through the fat envelope delay! :^)
Response: I'm kind of indecisive that way... [3 turning into 6!]
Response: Oh good, I was a bit worried (after I sent it) that I should have put a top layer of something on...
Response: You are welcome - and thanks for your kind words. I learned a few new tricks working on the stink bug, so it was a good learning opportunity.
Response: I'm so glad you like it - the idea came in one of those brain storms and I just went with it!
Response: You're welcome! I'm glad you like her.
Response: Thanks for the info - I thought about trying the q-tips method but sharpies were close at hand so I just used them. Looks like the path of least resistance was a wise choice this time...
Response: Your secret is safe with me! Not sure we can trust everyone else reading this, though :^)
Response: It's all about the sprinkles, I guess. Hard to put sprinkles on without the frosting! :^o
Response: Hmm, I'm not 100% sure I remember. I adhered the first few layers with paint. For the scraps:
EDITED TO ADD: Now I think I used a clear liquid glue that I got many years ago at a dollar store. It came in transparent tubes about the size of a fat marker. The tubes aren't marked as to what the glue is made of.
Response: Glad you liked the fish! A story of indecision lies behind that double identity.
Response: You are welcome - I felt the same way when I got mine. Must start right now...
Response: I'm glad you like the ATCs, I've had a lot of fun with this series!
Response: Thanks for the suggestion - I thought that PC had gel medium on it, but I probably made it during my gel-medium-newbie days so I might not have used enough. Maybe packing tape would be better...
Response: Thanks for your patience, and I'm so glad to know that it made it through the mail. :^)
Response: Although for a few years, kids really cut into your reading time! (at least anything beyond picture books... :^) but then again, it was picture books that made the majority of my log!)
Response: I'm glad you like it! My other pink partner received one of the white hardangers, so I made something else for her - but as luck would have it, I only made 1 pink ATC in my April hardanger spree so it was okay!
Response: Thanks - I'm glad you liked it!
Response: You are welcome - or should I say "bitte schön" ? :^)
Response: Wow, what a crazy coincidence. Was he thinking: "mmmm, cheap protein!" ?? :^)
Response: Thanks for the kind words - I'm glad replacement Edgar made it!! Frank kept him in line, I guess. :^)
Response: You are welcome, glad you like them! I'm not sure if I mentioned it, but an outline connects across all 5 if you put them down in numeric order.
Response: I'm glad you liked George - he was fun to make! :^)
Response: I'm glad you like it! I had fun with the weaving project, I'm going to have to do more.
Response: You're welcome - I'm glad you liked them!
Response: Awesome Possum, that makes me feel young again! :^) I sealed it with something called Omni-Gel. I bought it at a craft store because it was marked down on clearance. To be honest, I'm still not positive I'm using it right, but it seems to mostly work...
Response: You're welcome. Strawberry pizza is great - I need to make it for my strawberry loving 5 year old once they're in season here.
Response: You are welcome - I'm glad you liked it! By the way, packing tape transfers also work with colored pencils. (I sometimes print a design outline on my laser printer then color it in with pencils.)
Response: You are welcome - savor and enjoy! :^)
Response: You're welcome - glad you like it!
Response: I'm glad it arrived. I've got the stitching bug again after doing the purple one!
Response: Glad you liked them - and thanks for heart #100!
Response: You are welcome - glad you liked it.

Response: You are welcome - I'm glad you liked the papers and the ATC.
Response: Great, I'll let my boys know.
Response: I'm glad you liked it!
Response: You're welcome - and although i couldn't send you actual tatting, I was glad to find a home for that extra ATC. :^)
Response: I'm so glad you liked it!
Response: You're welcome - I hope you do have a chance to make them, they're yummy.
Response: Big 10 coaches are definitely intense in a creepy kind of way... :^o
Response: You're welcome!
Response: Definitely! I wish I'd bought more (they were a valentine's version, i guess, and i bought one bag at 50% off. Should have bought more!)
Response: Now why didn't *I* think of that! Trading the gum to someone in line. Genius, pure genius.
Response: That was kind of my goal - just vaguely possible...
Response: I know, I know. NEXT time, really! :^)
Response: Hi Barbara, sorry to read about your health challenges. :^( I hear ya' on reserving bizcochitos for Christmas, but you can try butterballs any time! Especially since you don't yet associate them with Christmas... :^) Here's to a healthier 2009!
Response: Thanks for the compliments! I'm glad you liked the cards.
Response: I'm glad you like them. These were fun to do, weren't they?
Response: I'm glad you like it!

Response: You are welcome - I'm glad you liked them.
Response: I was just beginning to wonder how long it would take to get there - thanks for letting me know you received the chocolate. And I'm glad you enjoy it!
Response: I'm so pleased that you like them! Your comment made me smile. I had a LOT of fun with these.
Response: I found those postcards (actually a brochure with 3 postcards) inside an Iowa Welcome Center this summer, and couldn't resist taking a handful. I should have taken more! They come in handy for all sorts of situations.
Response: I found those postcards (actually a brochure with 3 postcards) inside an Iowa Welcome Center this summer, and couldn't resist taking a handful. I should have taken more! They come in handy for all sorts of situations.
Response: I'm glad you like the tags - I had a lot of fun making them. I'm going to have to make more for my own use now!
Response: Good eye! I did start with a larger card of zentangle and cut out ATC sized pieces. But then the pieces looked incomplete so I embellished a bit more. I will post the pix to Flickr soon and let you know when I do.
Response: Really? Darn, I double-checked the list. I better triple check it! Thanks for letting me know.
[edited to add]: Okay, I figured it out. I had forgotten "water", and both "pile" and "chocolate" were only visible to contacts. I fixed all that and now you should be able to see 30 photos.
Response: I'm glad you liked it. Your profile was my inspiration, and it was a lot of fun to do once I got the inspiration!
Response: You're welcome - I had such fun creating them, I couldn't help but share what I was thinking about at the time. :^)
Response: I'm glad you both like the CD! My 5yo wants to listen to the "food music" when he goes to sleep now (especially Ice Cream for Breakfast - he must be trying to influence my behavior! :^).
Response: Apparently those oxcarts are one of the few surviving 'authentic' folk arts in Costa Rica. I'm glad you liked it!
